That's what's fucked up about our prison and criminal system.

According to the show about meth that I'm watching on the National Geographic channel right now. It's a rerun, but I checked the date, and it's a 2010 production, so I imagine the data is no more than a year old.

We had a letter to the editor today from a guy in prison, been there for 7 years, and soon to be released - he was told 7 years that he'd get treatment for drug addiction, and it was constantly moved to a later time, including just recently. And he's soon to get out of prison, and won't get his treatment before leaving now.

This is one area that I'd really just love to fucking bash in the heads of Republicans - they're happy to spend shitloads of money to keep people in prison (because I think Republicans actually get some kind of sick sexual thrill out of it), but they won't spend ten percent of that to transform someone from a drain on society into a functional part of society.

PISSES ME OFF.

This is something that pisses me off almost more than anything else.

Oh, of course the Republicans also have all those privatized prisons that they've invested in, so they gotta keep those full as well.

Two things that will held this country immensely: no more privatized for-profit prisons, and no more for-profit healthcare.

Seriously, a state as big as California has only one county that actually has a drug treatment program in its prison? Fucking hell. That's an abomination.

2. Me too...
Drug programs do work...You'll hear some say..."Well not everyone in the program is successful" and, I say
I know those who do succeed are grateful.

3. Words do not begin to describe how effed up that is.
Many of those imprisoned ended up there because they were self-medicating underlying health problems. If they do manage to make it out of jail and get rehabilitated--no jobs because of the criminal record.

5. Few have any good mental health treatment options either.
What good is it going to do to lock up violent offenders who were violent because they were sick? Thats NOT treating the problem at all.
