If you had unlimited funds, what would your pet project(s) be?
1. I would start a foundation that emphasized adequate SLEEP for our people, especially schoolchildren. Our society is bombarded with messages stressing the benefits of proper diet and exercise, but rarely do we hear about the ravages of inadequate rest. My 2 kids are in elementary school and have to meet their schoolbus at 6:10 in the morning. That is lunatic.

2. I would fund private organizations that provided bus service for our elderly and indigent in suburban locations, to access doctor's offices, grocery stores and address other shopping needs. It's abhorrent that our elderly are forced to get behind the wheel of a car to take care of themselves. My mother is 78 and scared to death to drive 1 mile to the supermarket.

What would YOU do?

1. Initiate a scholarship fund for kids, not college age but younger.
This fund would buy them laptops, provide nutritional and clothing support, and even pay for tuition or transportation so kids with ability but limited means can get the best education possible. Middle school, high school; I figure let's identify the kids with ability and get them the tools to learn. Also, what this means is that kids in financially struggling families can directly help their families by doing better in school and perhaps qualifying for one of these special need-based scholarships.

2. Unlimited funds? First, I'd start Animal Rights, LLC
The ultimate financial juggernaut for animal rights and welfare. A division for every single animal related cause (within reason), tackling the biggest ones first. I'd help fund the orgs that are already doing what they do right (Sea Shepherd, HSUS, Farm Sanctuary, etc) and run roughshod over the ones that aren't. I'd offer the finest legal counsel to any animal liberationist or open rescuer caught during/after the act (non incendiary only, thanks). Lastly, a lofty hitman's bounty levied on any whaling vessel from Iceland, Norway and Japan (per the usual guidelines, of course). My version of the ALF would be ex-SEALs and Green Berets.

With those problems en route to ending, and seeing as how our government is absolutely inept in every way, my other financial juggernaut would be like Food Not Bombs on massive doses of steroids. This would be a legit charity that would have a chapter in every metro area that would somehow guarantee that anyone poor, homeless, etc can have 3 nutritious meals a day. I also envision, if possible, a chunk of land in each area, within walking distance (or maybe a shuttle?) where a "tent city" could be established. No homeless person should be hungry nor have to sleep in fear.

3. I would buy every piece of land that was on sale and in danger of being developed
and then, hire environmental scientists to create native habitat. I'd plow safe passage bridges and tunnels for the animals. I'd buy coastal land and do the same. And, establish a fund to protect all that land, in perpetuity. (Or, just give a huge amount to the Nature Conservancy. Or both.)

With the other half of my unlimited funds, I'd give Planned Parenthood a 200 million dollar yearly budget and the same to UNFPA

ABOUT UNFPA

Our Mission

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is an international development agency that promotes the right of every woman, man and child to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunity. UNFPA supports countries in using population data for policies and programmes to reduce poverty and to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect.
http://www.unfpa.org/public/about

Then, I'd continue creating new projects as the ideas hit me---like an electric and heating fund for those who can't afford it.

Public Service Messages, movies and other media highlighting women who have achieved in all imaginable endeavors---to offset the focus on women's victimhood which is mostly all we ever see regarding women's issues

Well staffed safe houses for battered and trafficked women, worldwide.
Animal rescue teams around the globe, and resources to catch and permanently disable poachers.

Edited on Fri Jul-16-10 05:54 PM by carlyhippy
all nations united, criminals would be SEVERELY punished, as to deter them from ever breaking the law again, every nation green, no more fossil fuels, no fighting, everyone WILL get along. I would rule from my very own carribean island, with offices in every major city. Oh yeah, mj would be legal in every country, it of course would be grown, processed and sold taxed (we gotta make some money somewhere). Everyone would have a job, everyone that is physcially able to work will, they will draw a paycheck. Food, housing, healthcare would be very affordable. Every child will be educated from preschool thru 4 years of college free

6. Senior Projects
Meals On Wheels for the shut ins, chronically ill...Transportation project to insure seniors have a way to and from doctor visits or grocery stores...Pharmacy project to guarantee seniors and disabled their meds without having to sell everything they own,or cutting pill in half etc.
I find seniors a great resource of knowledge yet in this country they are often ignored, neglected, abused. From nursing homes to their own homes they are vulnerable and often have no one to speak for them.

7. I would create a foundation to fund animal welfare.
I would establish free/low-cost spay and neuter clinics.
I would donate all I could to create more no-kill shelters in every county.
I would buy out all the puppy mills and ban any new ones.
I would donate generously to wildlife preservation and rescue organizations.
I would create preserves for wild horses, wolves, and other persecuted wild creatures.

and a no-kill cat shelter. But the most fun I ever had was as a DJ, so I'd like to run a radio station the right way.

Selfish of me, but there you go.

A true sphere would trap all the suns energy. And thats a lot of energy. How do you keep everything from frying?

10. Fund free health clinics all over the country
If I had unlimited funds then I would be able to afford state of the art clinics (with extensive capabilities) all over the country and put the for profit bastards out of business.

15. Media literacy.
Making people, especially young people, aware of the messages around them is like making fish aware of water. But with "unlimited funds," a successful campaign to counterbalance the corporate media could be mounted.

21. Unlimited?
Buy everything that is available to be purchased. Destroy the value of the money of the rich people, and put everyone on a fairly equal playing field. Make the resource lock held by a combination of corporations, dictators, and religions similarly irrelevant.

The world could use some reorganization. A real education, for anyone who wants it. apportion work and resources in such a way that people can live on the amount of work actually needed to sustain our future.

American Indian initiatives, getting IHS more viable, setting up more sustainable education standards/goals(Upper ed as well), housing/food and working on creating small business on/off reservations.

After that, not sure...perhaps fight the Lex Luthor apologists, and push a Pro-Kryptonian agenda on the populace....

23. Animals
and protecting them from abuse and other horrible things.

I have always wanted to help animals, because there is inadequate attention paid to their plights, and of course, the cliche about how they have no voice of their own. It may be trite, but it pretty much does say it all.

A second cause would be to help people in entertainment get to their dream job. As someone who had to pay the bills, I didn't have the ability to go and get my college degree in mass communications like I wanted, and when I finally did work in that field, there is a vast difference between being a secretary to being a director. I would help out by providing the requisite classes at night for those who wanted to get higher in the field of their dreams, and give them scholarships to pay for those classes.
