So, I've been commissioned by the commies to write a book
A publisher in China with government links, cause all but a couple have them, has offered me a contract to write a book on a small second tier city to give it some publicity. It'll be about the local economy, museums, sites to see, nothing evil.

The money ain't bad. The thing is, if I do this and it works out, there's a chance of writing a book on Xinjiang, which will get me to Xinjiang. And when this is all over I will have the dough I need to study Mandarin full-time and get a job OVER HERE with a wire service or something.

All kind of nerve-wracking.

1. That sounds like fun, will you be traveling through China to do that?
When you say second tier, do you mean one of the newer cities, or more of an older traditional city?

What does second tier mean in the context of a city?

By second Tier I mean it ain't Beijing or Shanghai. Not famous or well-known. This city is an older one, I'm told. Haven't started research yet. They will send me to the place and set up my accomadations and such.

13. It's not a place for advancement
In my case. I'm mid-level in my career. The only people here are working for local english media, or big time correspondents. I'm in between the two so need to move on out.
