Todd Snider and
Warren Zevon are two I can think of off the top of my head.

Who else?

3. Steve Earle
The guy has been cranking out amazing country, rock, Celtic, and bluegrass since he cleaned up. Not to mention his book of short stories, recurring roles on "Treme" and "The Wire", and his anti-death penalty activism!

6. Ray Davies or Ray Charles?
I guess Ray Charles was the brother.

Oh wait, Ray Davies was the brother of Dave.

Which brother were you talking about?

he became sober with the exception of "Tears in heaven"....

18. Perhaps not the recordings he's made, but he's still been playing
some excellent blues. (At the Crossroads Festival, for one.)

13. I imagine he enjoyed his sobriety while he had it
he really did do quite well after he quit drinking

16. Not sure why not, if he was strung out would he have refused the helicopter ride?
IMHO, his playing didn't suffer and he was a joy to watch and listen to when he sobered up.

14. Bill Joel.
I don't know if sobriety did it, though. Could have been Christie Brinkley.

20. Ringo Starr. He is almost the same as he ever was.
A charming chap with a solid sense of time and an ordinary but useful and distinct voice.

Also, he may be the luckiest man who ever lived.

23. Leonard Cohen?
Always love his stuff. His manager ran off with all his money while Leonard was living in the Buddhist monastery, so he went back on tour. His loss, our gain.
