What reality tv shows do you watch?...
I'm not big on reality tv, but I do watch...

Hell's Kitchen/Kitchen Nightmares...probably because I think it's funny to see someone drop the *f* bomb as much as I do. :D

Top Chef...I've never watched an entire season, but I do watch from time to time. Marathons usually.

American Idol... I know, I know.. this is embarrassing.

Dancing with the starts.. ditto from above.

Moving up, flip this house, and a few more like that.

How about you?

I try not to swear because it offends people, but this clip is pretty funny.

9. Just the "talent show" ones:
American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With the Stars, America's Got Talent. They are a nice break from news and politics sometimes.

There was a really good one a couple of years ago-- Rock Band (?)-- I wish they would bring that one back.

10. Survivor, Amazing Race
We're watching Survivor from South Africa right now. Also watch Top Chef, Project Runway, Hell's Kitchen, Top Shots, Pawn Stars, and Deadliest Catch (if you want to count those last two).

We're trying to watch Next Food Network Star, but it's a bit too painful to see people flop on camera like that, so we may just give it up. We gave up Big Brother during the Evil Dick season when it became obvious that production was fucking with the show.

14. None.
I tried the one with standup comics once, but it sucked - not a single laugh in the entire half hour. So ended my sole 30-minute stint with reality shows.

As for the "talent" ones, I would rather be in a coma than watch any of them for so much as a second, especially American Idol. Singers with bad haircuts banging out bad songs in an overhyped Karoake contest is REALLY not for me.

29. Mythbusters, Meteorite Men, American Pickers, Dirty Jobs
I've watched some episodes of Kitchen Nightmares, but I preferred his other show more - don't remember the name, but it was more educational and not as confrontational.

I've never watched an episode of American Idol or any of those amateur hour type shows. Watched a few of the Iron Chef episodes, but they really do not appeal to me much.

Mythbusters appeals to me because of the debunking, nod to physics and the humor. Meteorite Men is kind of cool - watching the guys go out and hunt for meteorites and learn more about how they fall and how to locate them. American Pickers is neat because its what I like to do - go out and find bargains that someone else thought was trash. And Dirty Jobs is fun because he gets into crap - literally - and I get to learn about jobs I never thought about.

Maybe those are not what you mean by reality shows, but they are as close as I will get.

36. Used to enjoy Hell's Kitchen, but it has gotten a lot cruder than it used to be
to the point that we don't enjoy it anymore. We watch some Top Chef now, even though I find the judges stuffy and unlikable.

We watch American Idol after the competition is down to 10 or so. ONly the performances, though, and we read who won the next day. Too much filler in the results shows.

We watched some Last Comic Standing, but there is only one guy so far we really like. It'll be interesting to check in again later and see if he makes it to the finals.

That's all I can think of.

48.  I guess maybe it's harder
to trash someone entirely when you have to develop a personal relationship with them. It's not just Ramsey berating the chefs that I dislike on Hell's Kitchen, though. They seem to be trying hard to find contestants with strong personalities that conflict with each other, but they increasingly come across as rude and hateful people with filthy mouths.

I did see one episode of Kitchen Nightmares, but was turned off by the fact that Ramsey traced all the restaurant's difficulties to some hypothesized deep personal problems in the family and ended up doing some ridiculous and exploitative "tough love" amateur therapy crap with them. Maybe I just caught a particularly bad episode. At least on Top Chef they focus on the cooking.

I'm sure I'll tire of it quickly, but it's a fun show, and I enjoy seeing some of the stuff people bring in.

The show also reminds me that some people are in really difficult situations. You often see someone accept so little for a valuable item, even when presented with a valid appraisal. That part is sad, but overall the program is pretty interesting.
