15. Since you now have a dead snake somewhere on the premises...
have you decided how to cook it, and whether to make a belt or shoes from the skin?

9. and to think last year I was complaining about skunks coming in the house
:eyes:

its funny how regular healthy fear and irrational fear work, though. I'm not irrationally afraid of snakes, even rattlers - I mean I freaked a little that it was there, but dispatched it and now am sitting here fine. On the other hand I have an irrational fear of caterpillars (I know, it's weird) and if there had been a big old tomato worm under there I would be all jumpy and nervous and probably go put shoes on and rig up a light or something - in fact just writing that scenario makes me feel funnier than the snake...

11. Ah, country life!
Ain't it grand? Ain't it peaceful?

My house is up a little off the ground and in twenty years no snake has climbed the steps. Fortunately. I did have a bad day/week but there were no snakes involved. Even in summer I rarely see them.

Where I live the Brown Snake and the Red-bellied Black are the ones you have to watch out for. The Brown is nothing to look at, but fierce. The Black is beautiful, rich red, glossy black and less aggressive. They say round here that there are more Browns than Blacks because the Browns eat the Blacks' young. I don't know if it's true.

Hope the wierdness you're enduring lifts like mist in the morning.

13. peaceful?

sometimes driving home about daybreak after a call about livestock out where they shouldn't be it's peaceful, and before all the chickens got munched again it was nice to go sit with them in the morning. Other than than that I'm having a hard time pulling up the "peaceful, quiet" memories at the moment.

I know they are there. just not coming to me right now:P

14. Oooh, rattlesnakes have red blood!!
Cool, I thought they would be like aliens and have green slime coming out of them.

They DO resemble monster-alien-beasty critters. IMO.

17. I heard him.
I had gone into the kitchen for a snack and came back, set the plate down and he buzzed real loud. (2 feet away from my bare tootsies, although I didn't know it yet) I thought it was coming from the window to a porch just to the left and assumed one of the cats had it cornered right there, but when I stepped around that direction the sound was coming from this way and the cats were accounted for now, so then I thought must be just outside the front door and went that way (walking within a few feet of it again!) and no the sound was coming from under my desk. Flipped the overhead light on and there it was - started yelling for somebody to bring a shovel because I wanted to keep an eye on it and not have it head somewhere I couldn't find! The only weapon at hand was a bamboo back scratcher and it was just a little short for comfort.
