Man accidentally shot himself while drunk, police say
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-county/bs-md-co-accidental-shooting-20100708,0,6431516.story

A 25-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the foot while intoxicated in a Reisterstown home early Wednesday morning, a Baltimore County Police spokesman said.

Donald Burshnick, 25, of Maine, N.Y., was drunk with other people in a house in the 1500 block of Nicodemus Road, said Cpl. Mike Hill of Baltimore County Police.

At about 3:30 a.m., he retrieved a loaded rifle from within the home and fired a shot into the floor, the spokesman said. "However, he struck his foot," Hill said.

Burshnick was initially taken to Northwest Hospital Center but was transferred to the University of Maryland Medical Center for surgery, Hill said.

He gave police detectives varying accounts about what had happened before admitting he was drunk, Hill said. Initial reports of the incident described it as a hunting accident. No charges will be filed, Hill said.

4. Alcohol, tobacco and firearms
is a federal bureau, not a way to spend an evening.

If I still lived there, I'd be drunk 24/7 too!

8. I can't say he was drunk, but a relative of mine did shoot himself in the foot.
He and some buddies were playing "quick-draw" in the desert. My relative had a 44 caliber revolver, and did not clear the holster before he fired. Blew much of his foot off.

Like I said, I can't say anyone was drunk, though I am suspect.

9. Nope - if one is drunk (or high), NOTHING that one does is accidental.
It all began with the intent of getting drunk or stoned, and whatever one does from that point on still falls under the rubric of intentional.
