2. My tastes have always been diverse. Been going to Jazz festivals
since I was 17, and underground clubs since I was old enough. I just can't understand people who think their age makes their musical taste.

31. Thank's for that
It baffles me that Cash was pigeon-holed as a country artist during most of his career.

Much of his work was really unique and unmistakeable. I think he really was gratified to be finally recognized and appreciated by the young "cutting edge" musicians of the day during the last years of his life.

33. It's the marketing people
Who insist that music fit into categories, and that the categories are exclusive. Musicians are generally smarter than that - and audiences demand it.
One of NH's patriarchs of country said "Well, when you play out, you need to get you a good young rock drummer! That's what gets people up and dancin!"

Just my opinion here - "Country" audiences like their performers kinda fakey, and at least half full of shit. This may be a reaction to years of exposure to "the Nashville Sound" - but they often don't react well to a sincere performer like Johnny, Steve Earle, or Emmylou Harris.

12. I don't think age has a lot to do with it....
You grow up liking certain music and it really doesn't change much as you get older. I never liked Metal as a teenager and still don't like it.
But I loved blues when I was a teenager, kind of odd for a 15 yo liking Muddy Waters, and that hasn't changed since
I've gotten older.

Doesn't matter...you're not weird. You like what you like...nothing wrong with that.

And I hit 40 a little while ago.

My aural drugs of choice lately: Down, Devin Townsend/SYL, Mastodon, Opeth, Testament and High On Fire. I've always loved heavy music and I don't see that trend fading. For some perspective, I still listen to lots of Beatles, quite a bit of Blues, some Classical and a little Jazz.

I'd like to think -- Yes.

I'm almost certain the guy that introduces them did. He can barely contain his laughter.

Lawrence Welk is completely, hysterically clueless. "Thank-You Gale and Dale for that Modern Spiritual." Really?

22. I am 48, and I listened to Jimi Hendrix this morning on the way to work.
Last night, I had the Zeppelin cranked. And after that, I listened to some quiet folk music. I might take in some opera tonight. I like almost all genres of music, and I intend to listen to all of them as long as I can. From Black Sabbath to Jennifer Warnes; from Chris Izaak to Arrested Development.

Yes, my friends think I'm weird, but that has little to do with my musical tastes. It is much more closely connected to me living my life on an intellectual plane they can scarcely imagine.

Classic rock lovers only. Personally if I ever hear Hotel California (unless done by Leftover Salmon that is)again, it will not have been long enough. I listen almost excusively to live recordings too and haven't purchased a CD in over 6 years.

42. Love it! 55 years old here--and a CHICK!
I loved The Stones when I was growing up, loved Metal when I was a teen (the real stuff like Zeppelin, not that 90s hair metal.) and to this day I love Alternative. Just born to Rock and Roll, I guess and I see Alt Rock as being the torch carriers of the music I first heard as a little girl. I also love other genres--classical Baroque Italian, Fusion, Old Standards, 80's Hip Hop, Reggae, and World Music--but Rock is visceral to many of us, and we're not gonna give it up for AOR or any other kind of geriatric version of it.

Rock on, my Young Friend. Screw what everyone else thinks of it--or you!!!

Don't you ever listen to the radio
When the big bad beat comes on
I know you gotta dig it
I know you can't stop it
Cause the bottom comes on so strong

Talkin 'bout (heavy music),
Oh I got to have it yeah (heavy music),
I got to love it now
Deeper (heavy music)
Deeper (heavy music)
Baby don't you get a kick, from it yeah
Dig it (heavy music)
Dig it baby (heavy music)
Dancin to that heavy music (music) What I sing to the heavy music (music)

Yeah a little bit deeper now, alright
Don't you ever feel like goin' insane
When the drums begin to pound
Ain't there ever been a time in your life
You couldn't believe what the band is puttin' down, about

(repeat chorus)
Yeah, alright, goin' in, goin in now
Oh yeah I'm goin' in now
Come on come on with me baby
Come on come on with me baby

And I absolutely love hard rock. I've gone to see the (somewhat sleazy, and young) hard rock band Buckcherry 4 times and probably the only time I wasn't the oldest person at the show was when they opened for AC/DC. :D

As for my friends' opinions, it's hard to say because I don't really see my old friends all that often these days.
