2. Ugh we got the list--sent home on the last day of school
I can't even wrap my mind around the fact that MG Jr. is going to be a second grader in a few months, and I have to start thinking about school supplies? (Note: Some of the supplies from this past year came back completely unused--!)

I think once again we're going to dare to go in August. It's a fine line to walk--late enough that you don't harsh the summer mellow by thinking about school, but early enough that the stores still have everything we need.

We tend to go to Target, FWIW.

will gather all the stuff and i dont have to look or figure it out.

i got youngest list end of the year and went in trash. we will do it after reg beginning of august. but we do it as an adventure and psyching up for new school year. along with the school clothes and shoes.

this summer is taking forever... lol. we have only begun

4. They get stuff FOR you?
Hmmm...! Oh wait. We might not have an Office Supply. There's an "Office Something" in one plaza, but it might be Office Depot. I can never keep them straight. Eh, Target isn't so bad--they have all the bins in one place, in the back corner of the store. The only hassle there is navigating around kids whining that they NEEEEEED to have all-Jonas Brothers folders or whatever. (MG Jr. isn't picky, thank goodness, but we do tend to pick up car-related folders and notebooks, if they're available, just for fun.)

Darn right this summer is taking forever! Ours will be broken up with a trip to California, swimming lessons, and Cub Scout camp, and yet I'm already scrambling to figure out ways to pry the kid away from the video games before I hear "I'm booooorrreeedddd..." (And I have failed once or twice already.) Yesterday, feeding the plastic bottles to the machine at the grocery store. Today, making brownies.

5. read a book.... lol lol
and i laugh. i have taken to saying that anytime kids say, i am bored. it is so funny. didn't your parents always say that. they do read

yours are younger. mine older. things have changed a bet. and this year is the first we dont have measured out trips or whatever for kids to do and stuff. i was thinking the other day about how i would have scheduled to do's. not so much this year. done with it. let them be bored, and happy going back to school. they are old enough, i dont get whine, lol.

we had our trip to calif in spring. it was a blast. i am from calif so was good getting back and good letting the boys feel the difference of calif to texas. we drove. we drove up thru nv into northern calif, eureka. then down hwy 1. i am afraid of heights. after all this time, i remembered why i never took that road when i lived there. we stayed in SF for four days and then drove back the south route. was terrific. we loved it.

where are you going?

i dont remember the name of supply store. i always get them confused, too. may be more expensive or not. i dont remember, but i know it is just easier than a walmart. started using them a couple three years ago.

6. Yeah, MG Jr. is more capable of entertaining himself every year
Good gods, last year and the year before--? :scared: I felt like Julie the Cruise Director!

Your trip sounds great! My mother, brother, and I drove cross country from (western) New York to California, southern route, when I was 11. That was one of my all-time favorite vacations ever. I'd love to do it again sometime.

We're visiting my brother and his family in Riverside. Not my favorite part of California (I prefer SF) but it's an annual trip, as my mom isn't getting any younger and she wants to see her son, DIL, and granddaughter as often as possible. Plus she has this weird fear that if she doesn't force us together, my brother and I will lose touch. That'll never happen; even though there's 15 years between us, we're pretty close--in fact, the older we've gotten, the less of an issue the age gap has become. But it makes her feel better.
