fabric scraps/crafts projects
i have some really good fabric scraps, some of really superb fabrics, some w. sentimental value

i don't have enough to make another patchwork quilt

a purely decorative object would be OK, in fact it would be preferred to making some of these fabrics into something perishable like a pot-holder

ideas?

1. A small wall hanging would probably use them up.
Wouldn't take forever to hand quilt either. :)

2. Potholders!!
People love them!

Women in a local office use their lunch hour to make potholders to sell for a local no-kill shelter.
On one side they put three layers of cotton - good color combos. Sew straight lines diagonally 1/2" apart, cut between the stitch lines and fluff up the layers.
On the other side use a cute print and frame it with coordinating fabric.

A friend makes potholders to send to people who donate to a local environmental organization. People love those too. She generally makes a kind of applique of a cute subject (cats) on coordinating fabric. The back is a different fabric and the edges are bound in another fabric.

People don't use these - they hang them on the wall.

4. Baby bibs for gifts?
I used to make the cutest bibs made from fingertip towels & appliques..

Just fold the top down a bit, sew an applique on the flap..cut a semi-circle in the middle of the folded down part for the neck & sew on bias tape for the ties..

totally washable & absorbent..any fabric could be adapted:)

5. I'm with Kali
Throw pillows, definitely. Then you can still admire and stroke those gorgeous fabrics. Myself, I'd appliqué, I don't have the patience or precision for piecing.

For those moments when a taser just won't do.

A soft, crocheted puffball, with attitude.

Ok, so probably not the best idea ...

:hi:
