I just can't bring myself to buy a $500+ smart phone. Can't. But I would spend that on a good computer, especially one that seems as portable as the iPad.

But would love some input from any current users/owners. Would it be easy to keep with you in a tote bag?

1. I love mine, but
if you are looking for a computer substitute, buy a net-book.

4. The touch screen makes it really easy to use,
it boots in about 1 second, there are aps for just about everything and they most cost under $5 (if not free). I can play games with friends online, do email and check out facebook and DU.

I don't do anything serious on it, I have it just for entertainment. Maybe why I am having so much fun with it.

:hi:

No more fingerprints! And if you take notes or draw, it's great!

It is only farce.

Do not be frightened.

There did exist rumors
of creatures in these woods.

5. A co-worker got one for his wife and I had a chance to check it out...
here's my 2 cents.

Seriously, it serves no purpose other than bragging to others "Oooo look I have an Ipad". Don't get me wrong, it's a great product but I could see why he got one for his wife. She travels all the time so she has that for on the plane. That makes sense.

I almost got one and realized I had no clue what to do with it so skipped it.

6. I'm just looking for an alternative to plunking down tons of
money on a smart phone. Seems for the same price, I can get an iPad and have more functionality than a smart phone ....

11. But if you're going somewhere you can't just toss your ipad in your pocket and go
I mean this is big - it's not a convienient phone

12. I usually have a tote bag for books -- and if the iPad is
lightweight, I'd consider using it rather than a smart phone and just keep my current little cell phone for actual calls...

I should probably go look at one :)

9. I like mine because it weighs less than a laptop but is bigger than my phone
I can read webpages, send email, edit photos, do spreadsheets, read (and carry lots of) books, amuse myself with various drawing programs on something that weighs a little over a pound and has a giant screen and fits easily in my purse. I can also type pretty much normally on it, too.

19. not unless you use VoIP ...
but if you have Skype or some other program you can use it like a phone if you plug in earphones/buds

I would like some of the applications of a smart phone, but the price tag and mandatory service contracts really bother me -- as it is now, I'm almost out of the 2 year contract I have with Verizon, and will just go month to month and get fancy apps and stuff on on iPad rather than get locked into another 2 year contract.
