Nightly Newsworthy: a new poem

[CaliforniaPeggy]

they talk to us every
night
calm, glib, glossy
smiles and
hair

neatly prepackaged
speech
all tidy
for our consumption
no indigestion
no anger

no
thinking


underneath
the oil roars out
fouling our lives
drones bomb the kids bloody
girls stoned in the
sand
for lost virtue and honor
young men waterboarded
for lies

while the nightly
newsworthy puts us
to sleep
