9. England 4 USA 1
Edited on Fri Jun-11-10 08:07 AM by alcibiades_mystery
It's gonna be a wipe-out.

England will score 4 to get their goal totals up if need be, but switch to defense for the last 25 minutes to avoid embarrassing the desperately overmatched US team.

11. I go for the US out of sheer pride.
As an American living in the US, this is one of the few times that any conflict exists. Since it's a friendly conflict, I'll root for my home country. Besides... all of the English flags around here lately give me the creeps.

16. I can't understand why anyone thinks Britain won that conflict
The USA ultimately got everything it wanted from Britain: the end of impressment, the end of their interdiction of trade between us and anyone else and, most importantly, exclusive control of navigation on the Mississippi. Britain got... what?

26. Neither of which had an impact on the diplomatic outcome
The conquest of Canada was not an object of the war in and of itself according to Sec. of State Madison, but merely an attempt to gain a hostage to exchange for the things we wanted. We didn't capture Canada, but ultimately we didn't need to.

17. I would correct the first two dates
1781, when Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, paving the way for the Treaty of Paris in 1783 and formally ending the war.

And the second date could be changed to 1815 in honor of the Battle of New Orleans, even if the war was over by then.

28. I was thinking about when the wars began
You have a point here. 1776 and 1812 were when the wars started; 1781 and 1815 were the years when we kicked the Brits' asses (not arses, because that's how we would have called it had the Brits won).

so I was wondering what the history was. Anyway, I looked it up on wiki and think I understand.
