Downtown ATL/Sharky's Machine
Let's hear it for an "old school" Burt Reynolds film!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ierJjRtvaWQ

This clip has the beginning of the film, with a totally kick ass opening scene flyover of downtown Atlanta at sunset. The flyover starts out basically heading north, before turning west once it passes the Westin Peachtree Plaza. The "Coastal States" building is still there, today, with the lettering up on the top of the building, although it has long since been painted black (so you cant really see it any more with "really looking"). The fly over continues over an old industrial part of Atlanta that was razed and used to form Centennial Olypmic park, and continues flying past the CNN/Omni complex and winds up zooming in on Burt walking along the railroad tracks.

Terrific tower-fall stunt by Dar Robinson in that one, with the catch-wire clearly visible!

5. It was a free fall
at the time, Dar's jump held the record (and may still). Check out this link:

6. For real? I must be thinking of another fall, then.
I remember seeing the wire coiling away from him as he fell, but it's not as though this was his only stunt! I'm sure that I could be misremembering the source.

9. Thanks to your link, I found the one I was thinking of:
It was from Stick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK5M3TLO1Vw&feature=related

They all kind of blurred together thanks to my hodgepodge of memories from That's Incredible! and the countless crappy 80s movies I've seen!

2. Domino.
Aside from being about my most favorite Reynolds film (The Longest Yard is #1) Sharky's machine featured Rachel Ward. :)

10. Nice to see the Peachtree Plaza central tower without ....
all the other broken windows. When are they ever going to replace those things?
