What's the thing you've been wanting to buy but can't?
Most of us have this problem. I've been wanting to buy more security products so I can try them out, but I have more important things to buy.

I can dream. I need to pay my car and tuition first.

4. DVD burner
They're just too much money to spend on an entertainment item. But they're going down slowly but steadily. By 2006 or so, I hope to be able to purchase one.

5. I have been wanting to buy MrGrumpy his heart's desire...
A widescreen HDTV. He has been working 7 days pretty much since October to keep our little family afloat. He always stops and stares longingly at them when we are at Costco. My heart would love to buy him one to make up for the last crappy 6 months, but my head says he would be angry with me...so for now, it's the 27 incher that we watch. :hi:

6. Too many things to name.
Perhaps that makes me sound a bit materialistic, but it's not toys I want; it's home improvements. A screened-in porch. The house painted (inside). Better carpet, although what we have is adequate.

The only thing I want that we need is a new car, and when we can afford it it'll be a hybrid.

7. A new truck
I drive an '89 Isuzu pick up and it's getting awfully rusty, but it still runs good. But I'm getting to the point that I don't really trust it. It probably isn't worth more than $500.

I'd love to have a new truck so I wouldn't have to worry about maintenance and it breaking down. I have to drive 50 miles round trip to school and back.

But I think it's going to be a long time before I can get a new one. I've got two more years of school left so hopefully my little Isuzu will hold together long enough for me to graduate and get a good job.

15. Yes, I'm always wanting those
I can afford them, but not all at once. Sometimes I'm not sure which I won't be able to afford right away, so I didn't list them. Hope everyone gets what they want. :hi:

12. I've had mine for a year and love it
I'm waiting for the battery to die in 6 months ;-) , there has been an issue with them.
Aside from that, it's really great for the road. I connect it to my cassette player via an adaptor and never get bored. I don't even use the CD player anymore.

Those look awsome! I have like 50 CDs with burned music on them and I could finally throw them away with an Ipod.

going to invent! I've been through vinyl, 8-tracks, cassettes, now CDS -- dammit, if this digital music isn't the END, why, I'll . . . :grr:

I'm glad I didn't jump on the compact digital cassette trend in the early 90's.

27. About compact digital cassettes.....
...hey, I'm sure those things will be collector's items soon if they aren't already.

I definitely plan to put my entire CD collection on mp3 as soon as I can afford an iPod and a new PC (which won't happen until I find a job... if any fellow DU'ers here know anyone in San Francisco who wants to hire a PHP/MySQL/HTML programmer.... :) ). That said, I will NOT be tossing my CD's themselves, but storing them away somewhere. And not everyone is computer-literate enough to utilize digital music, so I don't think CD's will go away for another several years.

Besides an iPod and a new computer (preferably a laptop), yeah, I'd also like a new DVD burner -- to archive my MP3's.

14. Man, you know, my daughter was asking me something like this...
I think I've been hanging around Quakers too long - couldn't really come up with anything. Education for the kids, you know - but nothing material really came to mind. I know what my wife would like - back in the old country she owns a nice-sized mountain, but she didn't realize it was hers and the taxes weren't paid or something, and a cousin sort of took it over. She'd like to reclaim that. Her grandmother's grave is on it, and a church that her grandmother built. There's a village at the foot, but that of course belongs to the people who live there. Wonder what the actual acreage is - not sure - it's probably coupla miles on a side.

18. A Kawasaki Vulcan
I had to give up my bike when the arthritis chewed up my legs-- every time I took a ride I paid for it with three days of pain. But now that I've had my knee replaced and am on some drugs that actually work for me, I'd LOVE to get back onto two wheels.

I had a Vulcan 750 that I loved, and I made the mistake of going to their web site about a week ago to see what the prices are these days. I've been dreaming of my bike ever since.

29. My Wish List
If anybody wants to apply to be my sugar daddy, just PM me! :7

Satellite TV - I don't even have to have HBO, Cinemax, or PPV. I'd be happy with movie, music, Discovery, DIY channels home decor channels and the PBS clones.

Laptop - that I can take anywhere and write. I'd love to sit in a coffeehouse or in my favorite park on a sunny afternoon and write.

Home Improvement

This stuff has come to a screeching halt since my being laid off.

- New Flooring for the bathroom and kitchen. Both sorely need it. They look permanently dirty, eventhough you could eat off them. (I'm a big believer in Clorox).

- Interior Paint job for the house. The last time the interior was painted was 20 years ago and it looks it.

Bookshelves for my office. I am now sitting among books on the floor.

Digital camera. Not as big a pull as the Satellite, but there nonetheless. I'd love to email pics to my family.

Furniture for the sun room. I have no furniture out there now, and it would be nice to sit and read or listen to music while being surrounded by the outdoors. I'm thinking a wicker set (or wicker-like plastic is ok), setee and chairs with coffee table for visitors. And a chaise for reading.

So yeah, you could say I'm behind on my conspicous consumption. If I got most of these done, I'd feel a whole lot better.
