It's for a 2003 Saturn L200.

1. we got a quote of 1700 for my husband to have his 99 SW2's AC unit replaced
That was from the GMAC dealer, who has absorbed and destroyed all that was good about Saturn service. It was expensive before Saturn went bust, but not that expensive.

We promptly went elsewhere.

Sounds a bit high to me, but sometimes their parts tend to run high, particularly for older models.

8. We just had my mother's AC done in her Honda CRV
With parts and labor it was $1500, the parts are expensive, and Honda buries the gear meaning there is a lot of pull-apart and put-back together. This was at a private garage that we've had work done at before, and we trust them to not screw us.

2. My BIL had a SAAB that was over $600 for every tuneup....Dealer repair work
is outrageous and not always very good. Our VW Passat went to a dealer for recall work and never ran right since, spent several months not running at all and in another shop. We finally had it towed and traded it in for a used Hyundai.

4. Sounds about right
Maybe a tad high, but the fuel pump is 200-300 by itself and it's located inside the fuel tank, so labor is going to be a bit more.

5. $750 sounds like a good price for a quality bicycle
Actually you can get them even cheaper than that.

Obviously.

6. Parts prices for the fuel pump and filter should be about $250-300
Prices vary online, but I found the pump priced between $200-300, and the filter is cheap.

There's not much labor involved, so I'd figure more in the $500 range.

7. If it one of the fuckers they install INSIDE the damn gas tank, then yeah.
Otherwise, about $120.

10. Close. Drop the gas tank and half the exhaust, IIRC.
The parts are only $250 or so.

No, I don't own one, but heavily researched this particular car when my roomie was car shopping.

11. I'd do the entire job for 435 but unfortunately we're far apart.
My cost on parts is 323.

12. rip off
I was going to say a fuel pump should cost $50 to $75 but googling for the 2003 Saturn I see prices around $200. Still, more than $500 for labor is ridiculous because replacing a fuel is easy. It's not like a timing chain or rings.

13. I live in Grosse Pointe. Everything is more expensive.
But this is a gas station I actually trust. He's actually said to me in the past, "I'll be too expensive. You should go to the dealer for this repair." That's a guy I trust.

It still seems like a awful lot for 'labor.'

15. No, it sounds about $250 high.
I used to have a S series, which was the predecessor to that car. Parts and service were very, very cheap.

You need to call around to another shop, IMO.

Is that a dealer "service" dept. price?

18. 2003 Saturn? Sounds about average, sadly.
My "mechanic" is an unlicenced backwoods *********
who regularly deals in st*l*n p*rts,
and he says he could do it for $300
with "used" parts for CASH, with no guarantee...

So $750 from a REAL garage sounds about right
from where I'm sitting.
