A cat question
Edited on Sat Jun-05-10 06:22 PM by quakerboy
For anyone who may happen to know:

Do cats react differently to the different colored laser pointers? I am just wondering whether now that there are relatively cheap blue and green laser pointers, if anyone has tested this out.

ETA: very strange. The lounge page shows 2 copies of this with 2 different read counts. But my DU shows only one copy.

1. We brought home 2 different colored lasers and our cats acted the same
total indifference. I guess I am thankful they didn't laugh at my naivete.

2. cats can only see blue and green
so either one is fine.

i've always had the red. and they like that just as well as any other. if they see a spot and it moves, it's gonna trigger their prey drive and they are gonna pounce.

3. They (mine anyway) react to white flash light
Moving concentrated beam. I don't think the color matters.

Do check (on the box/package) to see if the color is not recommended for any reason, and NEVER shine it directly in their eyes.

4. I have a red laser pointer. My 5 year old cat likes it. My older cat couldn't care less.

5. My curiosity
is whether the 5 year old would react any differently to a green laser pointer than the red. Or one of the blue ones. I can't see why they would. Then again, I can't see why they wouldn't. I think someone with a cat needs to do some in depth research. Take notes. Write a paper. Get published. The world must have answers to these important questions!!!

9. Here's a fun thing to do with cats and laser-pointers...
although I've stopped using them because I had read that they're not necessarily the best toy for cats, as ther's nothing for them to grasp, and it just antagonizes them.

However-
take the laser light dot, get the cat's attention with it, and then make the dot "go into" something- like a shoe or a vase you're not too fond of, and then turn the laser off.

10. I have a cousin
He's a typical indestructible "tough guy" teen. They have a cat and a laser pointer. Its fun to watch him jump when that dot hits a certain spot, and the cat starts to charge.

Its a good thing he likes me. And that we have a good relationship.
