Would our pets still love us if they could open their own cans of food?
My cats are so friendly and loving first thing in the morning I would really like to think they just want to give me a great start to a wonderful day. To be honest, they just want fed - they get their wet food first thing in the morning too.

It just makes me feel used sometimes - that I am nothing more than a food machine for my felines.

1. But do they cuddle up with you at night?
They're not looking for food then!

3. They tend to be more cuddily when the dry food dish is empty

21. My Max cuddles up with me at night, all right!
I woke up in the middle of the night with Maximus lying squarely on my left foot. What really woke me up was that I heard a popping sound in my left knee when I turned over!! I woke up this morning in agony and unable either to turn nor extend my knee! IOW, I think I sprained my left knee in my sleep, thanks to an oversized, overgrown kitten!!! OUCH!!!

:hurts: :(

2. Of course. They can't (won't) scoop their own litter boxes, right?
:)

22. Some cats "scoop" their own litterboxes--but not in a very sanitary way
I had one cat (she passed away 7 years ago) who'd leave one dried turd on the rim of the litterbox as a reminder for me to scoop and/or change the litter. My mom had a vulgar Italian nickname for her: Signorina Stronzo! (Miss Piece of $#!t)

4. Maybe you need to sit down with them and talk about the relationship
I mean, it's good that they still love you in the morning and all, but it sounds like you're not getting the minimum required displays of affection the rest of the day

5. Yes I just want more affection throughout the day
Are there councilors out there that can help us work thru these issues? Is it wrong to ask for extra loving? I know I'm being a bit needy but I have wants and desires too. I just don't think they listen to me!

6. Cats are in awe of anyone who can crack open the hard shells of those little metal animals
and scoop the fresh-killed insides out for them. :p

8. They do try to crack those shells, though.
If I don't put the cat food cans away I'll find them all over the kitchen floor. If the Gang of Fur ever figure out how to work those pull-tab tops open, I will have a mess on my hands.

9. On a rare occasion
my cats will come visit me first before eating when I get home (they have me well trained though if I don't open a can of wet food within 30 seconds of coming home I hear about it!)

11. We'd still have to get them the cans
so yes. :-)

Our dear Kwan Yin once figured out the knack of tearing open semi-moist Tender Vittles pouches. Since she was such a shiny black beauty, I sent the pouches to Purina, with the intent of making her the female Morris. No dice. :( But she loved us anyway. :loveya:

12. I think they'd have to because they don't have pockets to carry the credit
cards or money they'd need to buy their own food.

13. Food is just a part of it - our dog LIVES in A/C, with overhead fans,
has a dog bed in the living room, but chooses to lounge mostly one the leather sofa and gets grumpy when I tell him to move so I can sit there. He is at this moment stretched across out California King size bea, again in air conditioning, snoring away...and drooling on MY SIDE of the bed. ( He is around 110 pounds, and nearly as long as I am tall counting his tail.)

It's more than just food.

15. I think my cats find me delightfully amusing
They're always watching whatever I do, with their heads cocked to the side. So it's not just dinner, it's the show, too.

16. Kitty love is more food-dependent than doggy love.
My 3 kitties love me on some level, I'm absolutely sure, but I think they'd love me less if I made them go get their own food. My dog, OTOH, would continue to worship the very ground I walk on, even if I never fed him again.

I love them all, of course.

:)

24. Cats? Maybe not. But the dogs sure would.
They'd open OUR cans for US and wallow in the adulation.
