If not how close did you get to one.

I was at this game - not the Perfect game that Tom Browning pitched but the perfect game he just missed by 2 outs:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Browning#Perfect_game

He also missed becoming the first Major League pitcher to hurl two perfect games, taking another bid into the ninth on July 4, 1989, against the Philadelphia Phillies at Veterans Stadium; a lead-off single by Dickie Thon broke up this attempt. After his 1988 perfect game, Reds owner Marge Schott put a clause in his contract that stated his wife, Debbie, would receive a $300,000 bonus if he pitched another perfect game in 1989. The National League Office eventually nixed the clause.

It's weird when you're at the game. Usually sometime around the 6th or 7th inning you recognize what is happening and think "Hey this guy could pitch a perfect game". By the 8th inning you're holding your breathe every pitch that is made. That game was actually in Philadelphia and by the 8th inning even the Phillies fans were cheering on Browning. But when he was ready to throw a pitch the stadium would become unusually quiet in anticipation of what happens. After Thon got on base there was a standing ovation for Browning that lasted about 5 minutes.

1. Not me, but my Dad and brother saw Kenny Holtzman throw a no-hitter
against the Braves (Hank Aaron) in I think 1972 in Wrigley Field. The wind was blowing in. The last out was made by Aaron who hit a mammoth drive only to have it blown back into the park and get caught to end the game. Side note: it was an election day in Chicago, so no beer was sold that day. Probably the only time my dad saw a game sober.

I got to see Dick Ellsworth v. Sandy Koufax in I think '62. It was late August and both pitchers had already won 20 games with ERAs less than 2.This was billed as THE pitcher's battle of the year. Neither pitcher made it through the first inning. Koufax threw his glove in the air and walked off the mound after a 3 run homer.

2. I was at the David Cone perfect game--on Yogi Berra Day at the Stadium.
Remember--this was the public end to the Boss/Berra feud. So everybody there was already in tears, 'cause Yogi hadn't been around for like, 15 years.

Then, Berra caught the ceremonial pitch from Don Larsen.

Then, David fuckin' Cone threw a perfect game.

I can tell you that Yankee Stadium, from about the 6th inning on, was as quiet as a church. People were rocking back and forth, muttering and chanting. Each out was like the bottom of the ninth with 2 out and 2 on, and you're down by one....The only sound during some at bats was the Freddy Sez tin pan.

It was complete fucking insanity when it was over. Everyone cried. Really cried. We all sang "New York, New York" at the top of our lungs---and then I think we all said 'fuck it' and stayed for hours, tailgating in the parking lots....

If this had been in a movie, no one woulda bought it.

3. Nope,
I do believe I did go to a game where my team, the Mariners received the worst beating in their history. This was July of 2000 I believe, against the Whitesox at Comisky. I do believe the final score was a 22-3, Moyer was the starting pitcher he gave up at least 8 earned, and the bullpen just couldn't stop the bleeding. I did stay til the 8th inning though, the rest of the M fans I saw at Comisky were gone by the 4th....

5. I was in the stands (as a kid) for Nolan Ryan's 3rd no-hitter.
And it was not boring at all. Quite exciting.

6. I saw Nolan Ryan throw a no-hitter against the A's in 1990.
I was 10 years old and a huge A's fan at that time and cried my eyes out that my team couldn't muster a hit.

Kinda missed the bigger picture.

7. I threw one as a 14 year old
saw Jon Lieber throw a 1 hour 49 minuted game V the St Louis Cardinals a few years back. I think it was a one hitter.

9. I saw a Nolan Ryan one hitter, with 16 strike outs.
He gave up the hit in the first inning. It was a short little bouncer that the short stop took and threw half a step late, IIRC.

Then again, that was a normal game for Ryan.

11. I saw a Douchebag Mussina one-hitter.
Thankfully, he never managed to pitch a no-no in his career. Too bad.
