Ladies (and others attracted to men), please suggest some songs for me to learn ...
I strum a little on the acoustic guitar and occasionally try to warble along with my strumming. I need suggestions for some songs I could learn that might make a good impression. (In other words, make me appear cooler and sexier than I actually am.) Nothing too complicated, either vocally or instrumentally, 'cause that would just make me look foolish.

1. I'm into women, but I'll make a suggestion
"More Than Words" by Extreme

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrIiLvg58SY

Guitar doesn't sound too complicated. Vocals might be a little tough, but you wouldn't have to get up that high. "More than words to show you feel that your love for me is real."

14. I think they did an acoustic version of Straight On For You.
Other good choices by them would be Dreamboat Annie or Tell It Like It Is.

But I thought we were looking for songs by guys to impress the ladies with.

Left a name off the list in oversight, John Mayer.

Thanks for the cautionary reminder, but I'm long since past my prime and even then, not what some might characterize as a traditional beauty. Had an old beau who said it well, not much from across a room, but too cute ten minutes into a chat.

23. Exactly! I'm a guy and I want to make a good impression.
Sorry for the confusion - should've just said ladies, what songs would impress you. Didn't want to leave out the fellas who are attracted to men because I thought they might come up with some good songs too. And, of course, the het guys are welcome to post too, but they will mostly have the same perspective as me.

7. Perhaps you will comprehend my confusion....
(I'm not cool enough to mock anybody except clueless winguts)

But I have struggled and been confused by the premise this day: You say::

"Ladies (and others attracted to men), please suggest some songs for me to learn ...

suggestions for some songs I could learn that might make a good impression. (In other words, make me appear cooler and sexier"

I GET the following:

1) You're a male.

2) Oh. Well, that's ALL I get.

Now.

You want to make a good impression, ON WHOM?!1 Your audience is WHOM?!1 Women, men, whom?!1
(That would be critical to know for suggestions to follow.)

sing it with heart and you'll be heels to Jesus before the night is out :)

Motion pictures on my TV screen,
A home away from home, livin' in between
But I hear some people have got their dream.
I've got mine.

I hear the mountains are doin' fine,
Mornin' glory is on the vine,
And the dew is fallin', the ducks are callin'.
Yes, I've got mine.

Well, all those people, they think they got it made
But I wouldn't buy, sell, borrow or trade
Anything I have to be like one of them.
I'd rather start all over again.

Well, all those headlines, they just bore me now
I'm deep inside myself, but I'll get out somehow,
And I'll stand before you, and I'll bring a smile to your eyes.
Motion pictures, motion pictures.

By Flight of the Conchords. (Just kidding-- Youtube wants me to sign in for that one and I don't remember my password, otherwise I'd link to it. Funny stuff)

Start with a bit of Flamenco, then do the Eric Clapton song of your choice. If you're courting, "Foxy Lady" or even "Voodoo Child" Can't miss with Jimi. "After Dark" by Tino and Tarantula is a great song, very sexy. (It's in the movie "From Dusk to Dawn")

19. Come Monday
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0---Q97pG4

Headin' up to San Francisco
For the Labor Day week-end show
I've got my hush-puppies on
I guess I never was meant for glitter rock and
roll
And Honey I didn't know
That I'd be missin' you so

Chorus:
Come Monday, it'll be all right
Come Monday, I'll be holdin' you tight
I spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

Yes, it's been quite a summer
Rent-a-cars and west-bound trains
And now you're off on vacation
Something you tried to explain
And Darlin' it's I love you so
That's the reason I just let you go

Come Monday, it'll be all right
Come Monday, I'll be holdin' you tight
I spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

I can't help it honey
You're that much a part of me now
Remember that night in Montana
When we said there'd be no room for doubt

I hope you're enjoyin' the scen'ry
I know that it's pretty up there
We can go hikin' on Tuesday
With you I'd walk anywhere
California has worn me quite thin
I just can't wait to see you again

Come Monday, it'll be all right
Come Monday, I'll be holdin' you tight
I spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

I spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

20. Amanda
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZz0J65kb14

I've held it all inward, God knows, I've tried,
But it's an awful awakening in a country boy's life,
To look in the mirror in total surprise.
At the hair on my shoulders and the age in my eyes.

Amanda, light of my life.
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.
Amanda, light of my life.
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

It's a measure of people who don't understand,
The pleasures of life in a hillbilly band.
I got my first guitar when I was fourteen,
And I finally made forty: still wearing jeans.

Amanda, light of my life.
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.
Amanda, light of my life.
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

26. Chestnut Mare
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXTnYCg8v8o

Always alone never with a herd
Prettiest mare I've ever seen
You'll have to take my word

I'm gonna' catch that horse if I can
And when I do I'll give her my brand

Well I was up on Stony Ridge after this chestnut mare
I'd been chasin' her for weeks
Oh, I'd catch a glimpse of her every once in a while
Takin' her meal, or bathin
A fine lady

This one day I happened to be real close to her
I saw her standin' over there
So I snuck up to her nice and easy
And I got my rope out
And I flung it in the air

I'm gonna' catch that horse if I can
And when I do I'll give her my brand
And we'll be friends for life
She'll be just like a wife
I'm gonna' catch that horse if I can

Well I got her, and I'm pullin' on her, she's pullin' back
like a mule goin' up a ladder
I take this chance and I jump up on her
Damned if I don't land right on top of her
Well she takes off, runnin' up on to that ridge
Higher than I've ever been before
She's runnin' along just fine, till she stops
Something spooked her
It's a sidewinder, all coiled and ready to strike
She doesn't know what to do for a second
But then she jumps off the edge
Me holding on

Above the clouds
Higher than eagles were gliding
Suspended in the sky

Over the moon
Straight for the sun we were riding
My eyes were filled with light

Behind us black walls
Below us a bottomless canyon
Floating with no sound

Gulls far below
Seemed to be suddenly rising
Exploding all around

I'm gonna' catch that horse if I can
And when I do I'll give her my brand
And we'll be friends for life
She'll be just like a wife
I'm gonna' catch that horse if I can

And we were falling down this crevice, about a mile down I'd say!
I look down and I see this red thing below us
Comin' up real fast and it's our reflection in a little pool of water
About six feet wide, and one foot deep
Crawling down right through it
We hit and we splashed it dry
That's when I lost my hold and she got away
But I'm gonna' try to get her again some day

I'm gonna' catch that horse if I can
And when I do I'll give her my brand
And we'll be friends for life
She'll be just like a wife
I'm gonna' catch that horse
I'm gonna' catch that horse
I'm gonna' catch that horse if I can
I'm gonna' catch that horse if I can

27. Baby i need your lovin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqfEQwrR5Wc

Baby I need your lovin'
Baby I need your lovin'

Although you're never near
Your voice I often hear
Another day, another night
I long to hold you tight
'Cause I'm so lonely

Baby, I need your lovin'
I got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'

Some say it's a sign of weakness
For a man to beg
Then weak I'd rather be
If it means havin' you to keep
'Cause lately I've been losin' sleep

Baby, I need your lovin'
I got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'

Empty nights
Echo your name
Sometimes I wonder
Will I ever be the same

Oh yeah, when you see me smile
You know
Things have gotten worse
Any smile you might see
Has all been rehearsed

Darlin', I can't go on without you
This emptiness won't let me live without you
This loneliness inside me darlin'
Makes me feel not alive, honey

Baby, I need your lovin'
I got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'

Baby, I need your lovin'
I got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'

30. Come Early Morning
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9-IuFT89s8

I been walking, walking in the moonlight
Tripping in the starlight, Lord and I'm feeling down
Walking in the shadows, sneaking down a side road
Come early morning I'll be there on the edge of town

I was a thinking, thinking about a good thing
Thinking bout a sweet dream, in my honey's eyes
And I was a sinking', feeling kind of lonesome
Come early morning I'll be home at my honey's side

CHORUS:
I have drifted up across the mountain
and I have stumbled down the other side
And I've been tempted, tried and troubled
Come early morning I'll be home and satisfied

She give me little loving, gives me little sunshine
Makes me have a good time, Lord when I'm feeling' blue
I couldn't refuse her, well I couldn't misuse her
Come early morning I'll be home with my honey dew

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMA-_ElvKsk

Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin'
We could dream this night away.

But there's a full moon risin'
Let's go dancin' in the light
We know where the music's playin'
Let's go out and feel the night.

Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.

But now it's gettin' late
And the moon is climbin' high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin' in your eye.

Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

Also, anything from the Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and English folk tradition will make certain women melt.
