RIP King George the 2nd Inn....1765-2010
http://www.kginn.com/

the sign on the door this morning

NOTICE

Due to increasingly poor economic conditions, the King George Inn regrets that we must close our doors. We would like to thank all of our patrons of the Inn who have supported us through the years and wish you a great summer

Yet another victim of this collapsing economy...and the bar I frequent across the street had employees from KGI applying for work today

This town is falling the fuck apart

1. wow - survived 245 years, wars, Great Depression...
but can't stay open. What a shame. I think perhaps it shows that the sheer cost of doing business has increased to a point where smaller establishments can't make it anymore... rents too high, insurance too much, utilities too high, etc. I don't think such expenses used to take so much out of a business.

I am just simply guessing, though.

2. No, you're right...I've had plenty of discussions with the proprietor
the expense to keep up a place like this is high. I am not sure how they hung in for as long as they did but they did.

They suffered for a while...I can only guess someone else will purchase this business ( this place being closed is extraordinarily bad for this town, what with the history behind it and all

3. A worthy namesake. George 2nd was the last British monarch to lead troops in battle.
And he led from the front. His English was weak, but that actually turned out to be useful in the long run.
