Am I the last remaining Blues lover?

I just got bored, so I went to Wal-Mart and bought a blues compilation, and am listening to it now. Now, Keep in mind that I live in SOUTHWEST Georgia. My Congressman is a black guy, and many people who live here are also old. Yet, upon my journey to the store, I noted that the blues section consisted of only four CDs- all BB King. I found the CD that I finally bought in the "please buy these because we don't want this crap" bin.

I'm 21 years old. Am I the last blues enthusiast, or what?

I think the problem isn't blues lovers, it's Wal-Mart. They're basically all about what's 'pop.' And I don't just mean music-wise.

Dude, I totally dig Lightnin' Hopkins - always have - and I love the sounds of the old-time Delta blues and the like as expressed by a dizzying variety of people named after their various physical maladies.

The blues rules - it's a pity that it's so infrequently apparent within the fabric of what passes for pop music these days.

It's great. I'm having trouble finding Blind Willie Johnson recordings though. It's gospel blues, like "John the Revelator" and stuff.

In fact, one of the top 5 shows I have seen is a blues show. I was in New Orleans on a weekend trip. I decided to see who was playing at the House of Blues. Lo and behold, it was a birthday party/wall of fame induction for Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. It was his 72nd birthday, and he was AWESOME!!! I stood no more than 3 feet from the guy. What a show!

Every Monday on our public radio station (8:00pm www.kut.org) is a show called Blue Monday. I give it a :thumbsup:

There used to be a tiny smoky club in Cambridge, and all the bluesmen traveling through the area would play there. At that one club, I saw Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Son Seals, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells...and I'm probably forgetting some. Plus an outdoor concert in the Berkshires in the seventies with Muddy Waters and Freddie King.

Buddy Guy is my favorite; I've lost track of the times I've seen him live. His guitar playing, his singing, his command of the audience--he just blows me away! One of the times when I saw him in that little club, he was hanging out near the back when everyone was leaving. A number of people were lined up to shake his hand and tell him how much they loved the show, but when I got to him he wouldn't shake my hand--he gave me a big hug instead! :-)

I don't think most people can find music at WalMart unless they love those two types of Music--Country AND Western! Gads...

You are not alone. I love Blues. Right now I've got Alberta Hunter's disk playing--Amtrak Blues. Next up will be Koko Taylor-- Force of Nature. Maybe later if I'm feeling real good I might put on some John Lee Hooker.

living in st louis, i grew up with the blues. the blues is everywhere here.
i must admit that sometimes i get sick of it. or maybe i just get in the mood
for some good rock, who knows. jaded i guess.

but i must also add the blues has kept food on my table and a roof over
my head at times when i really needed it. i love the blues. most roots
music is wonderful.

The blues was the first musical idiom that really spoke to me. I learned to play harp and slide guitar 'cause I just had to!

And of all the music I heard live in my life, and I've heard a lot, the best is still the night in 1967 I heard Taj Mahal play with his Blue Flame Band -- Ry Cooder, Jessie Edwin Davis, James Thomas and Sandy Konikoff. They were inspired.
