2. I'd say asshattery involves stupidity to a greater degree than assholery.

Anyone can be an asshole. Everyone has an asshole, so you might say it's a part of each of us. But asshattery involves something more; one has to make the choice to wear a hat, whether on one's head or elsewhere on one's anatomy.

Or maybe an asshat knows he's being an asshole. Haven't quite decided.
