Question about tipping - need advice.
The bunnyj family is relocating next week. We'll be moving approximately 4 blocks away from the current bunnyj manor.

I've hired a moving company to take the heavy stuff: furniture, appliances, beds, dressers, etc. The whole job from start to finish should only take about 4 hours. And, as I said, they're only taking the stuff that is too big for me to move or carry on my own. They will not be taking clothes, pots, pans, decorative things, etc. Just the big stuff. There will be three guys and one truck. At most, the total bill for the job should be about $425.00.

So, given that this isn't going to be the longest, most back-breaking move, the question is: Do I tip the moving guys? If so, how much? Do I give each of them something, or give the whole amount to one guy and tell him to split it up? I don't hire moving companies often.

Offer them a cold beer? :)

Any advice would be appreciated!

1. tip if they do anything extra or provide truly exceptional service . . .
otherwise it's not necessary, imo . . . some nice cold lemonade on hand would probably be appreciated, though . . . and maybe a pizza . . .

2. what sort of "company" is it?
If it's an actual company with many employees, etc. i say tip them. If it's just a few guys with a truck, i would tip less because they probably get most of what you are paying them.

4. It's an actual moving company with many employees.
Would you think $20/each would be appropriate? Too much? Too little?

try to stay in comfortable, familiar surroundings, keep snacks and good tunes handy, and have fun! Be sure not to take more than you can handle, and always know your dealer.

Oh, wait - TIPPING! I thought you said "tripping."

In my experience, you don't have to tip movers. Offering workers alcohol while they're on the clock can get them in trouble. Feeding them is OK, though, if you like.
