Unbelievable Pittsburgh Police Story
My next door neighbors are unreal. If they were any more sedate, they would be dead. This is why I was mind-blown when a few weeks ago, I opened the front door to a Pittsburgh Detective asking about an altercation between my next door neigbors and a police officer.

My neighbor called to tell me she filed a grievance against the officer, and the detective was investigating the case. Here is what happened...

My next door neigbor was driving around during an ice storm, and for whatever reason, she tried to drive up a rather steep cobblestone hill and got stuck. She pulled over as close to the curb as she could, but she was still sticking out in the street. She called 911 to inform them she had called AAA and she was partially blocking the street. 911 proceeded to tell her she could not leave the car there. Duh!?

Now 911 told a patrol car to swing by. The officer pulled up at the bottom of the hill, and ordered my neighbor to come down and talk to him. She fell twice on the ice on the way down.

Next, the two truck finally arrived to haul her up the hill. Once back on the street, she drove a block and tried to parallel park in her space with the tow truck and the cop behind her.

Now my poor neighbor cannot manage to parallel park on a GOOD day, much less with ice and an audience. All of our vehicles have her paint on the bumpers, and we just accept this as the price we have to pay. As she was parking, she tapped her neighbor's car. The cop gets out and starts grilling her about why she would try to parallel park. She calmly explained she lives here (DUH!?) and does not have a garage or driveway. The cop then tells her she is accused of a hit-and-run, and proceeds up the steps to our neighbor Ray's house. Elaine pleads with the cop not to wake Ray as it is midnight, he has a heart condition, and this can easiliy be settled in the morning.

The cop ignored her pleas and proceeded to beat on Ray's door. When Ray came down, he explaned to Ray that someone hat done a hit-and-run on his car. Ray asked who it was, and the cop pointed to poor Elaine. Ray first ripped the cop that Elain is his neighbor, they are friends, and it was a hit-and-park, not a hit-and-run. THen he looked at the car thinking she had sideswiped him, and saw only a 1" bit of paint on his bumper. He then yelled at the cop that there was no damage.

Now Lou, Elaines husband comes out after hearing the commmotion. He askes what is going on, and the cop tells him to mind his own business. Lou tells him it is his business because the cop is hassling his wife. The cop then tells Lou it is a hit-and-run, and Lou says it was a hit-and-park. The cop tells him to go inside befire he gets arrested for disturbing the peace. Meanwhile it is the cop disturbing the peace.

Elaine got the last straw. She had the tow truck driver, who was there for the whole incident, Ray, and her husband testify against the cop. The cop wound up with 6 months of desk duty and sensitivity training classes. Chalk one up for the little people...

2. I can often sympathize with the hassles of cop work
but, geez - a cold, snowy, icy night in Pittsburgh, ya think the cop would've had something a tad better to do.

3. Drunk with power.
That's what too many of these cops are. When you are an officer of the peace, part of your job is to listen to reason. Unfortunately, many of these quasi-military thugs seem incapable of doing that.

11. There's some interesting Game Theory in there
How do you get to hire cops if this is true? Draft them? But then, the qualified ones (the ones who don't want) would pretend they do want and act happy... or they would have APPLIED for the job in first place, which would instantly disqualify them...

Oh my head.

This sentence is a lie!

8. LOL... Good result
I'm guessing he'll learn his lesson... Tell her some British (ex-)police guy said "well done!".

(I would also guess he's a newbie, still full of rules and regulations from training but with no idea as to how things work in real life...
That or he'd had a really bad day!)

10. Local cops often get way too confident behind their badge
and use it as a tool to bully.

12. I want to move to your neighborhood

You sound like caring people. My new neighbor blocks our alley so I can't get out of the garage. If she would park ten feet away, there would be no problem. The alley is 150 feet long. It's not that there is no other choice. And, yes, I've talked to her nicely about it on several occasions.

edit: changed It to If
