2. That album really is a gem. It stands alone from the rest of them.
"Physical Graffiti" usually wins every time this poll is posted though.

3. Gotta go with PG, YMMV.
For me this one of those cases where a band builds towards a creative masterpiece and then (the hard part) actually pulls it off. Indulgent production and lyrics? Sure, but still one of the great albums ever.

20. One thing I like about 1975's PG...
...is the fact that it draws from earlier years as well, and includes tracks they'd been working from 1970 onward. Some folks call this "filler," but I say it gives the album its all-encompassing vibe, as the band tackles funk, blues, hard-rock, folk-rock and beyond.

11. but then would it still be deserted?
Or is a deserted island only deserted if there's one person on it?

7. Phys Graf, if only for Bonham's drum sound....
supposedly recorded with one microphone in a hallway while Bonham played under a staircase nearby. Still the greatest drummer ever, and his best performances are on that one ("In My Time of Dying," "Wanton Song," "Houses of the Holy," "Night Flight"). My entire musical life has been one measly attempt to replicate the sound of John Bonham's drums (I have failed miserably but I'm still obsessed!)

Compared to Bonham, for me, the rest of Zeppelin was cake icing.

9. Stinzola - since we go back to the days of our youths
You now I'm on board with you. 2 great drummers can't equal Bonzo. He is to rock drumming as Jimi is to rock guitar.

10. I'm still looking for music that hits me with the same force
that Bonham's drums gave me as a kid. As soon as I picked up sticks, being able to play "When the Levee Breaks" just like Bonham was the ultimate goal.....This is one of the reasons I'm so turned off my drum machines and samples. When I hear "When the Levee Breaks," I want to PLAY it like Bonham, not sample it!

I often get pissed that I learned other instuments, because sometimes I feel if I had just applied my focus to JUST the drums, I'd be there. Alas.

15. I am way lame.
I voted for "In through the Out Door" (I like the brown-paper bag -- it's great, because then my hipster friends don't know that I'm listening to a Zeppelin album).

18. 'Twas nothing but a trifle, Chavez.
I often joke about my hipster friends. The punch line is that I have no hipster friends, my friends are all hicks. I am considered odd for not having a silver '84 Trans Am with T-tops and the blue bird stencil-job on the hood.

19. I pictured you encircled by clove smoking beatnicks
hitting bongoes and reading Herman hesse books and Charlie Parker constantly playing while the quiet buzz of Carouselambra comes out from in between your ears and your headphones when, SUDDENLY, one of your "friends" uncovers the sordid truth!

For shame!

In 1969, I payed 3 bucks to see them when they were on their 1st trip to LA. For back up they had Albert King and a little known group called "The Santana Blues Band". (AKA Santana)...... And yes we were dazed & confused!
