1. RIP, Ernie.
I was able to listen to his last broadcast via the Interwebz (I heard him a lot when I was growing up). Even though I've never been to Detroit, I'm a huge baseball fan, and loved hearing Ernie broadcast.

2. One of baseball's all-time greats.
I used to listen to him as a kid when Cleveland was playing the Tigers in Detroit.

Godspeed, Ernie.

4. I grew up in Detroit
and Ernie was a great announcer and a down to earth, approachable guy. He made listening to games enjoyable. He and Vin Scully in a class by themselves...

5. Grew up in Detroit listening to Ernie. He was the best.

It wasn't summer without listening to Ernie broadcasting the games. For me, that started with the 1961 season - Cash, Kaline, Colavito. When I was supposed to be sleeping, I snuck a transistor radio into bed and would listen to the games under the covers. He may be gone, but I will always hear his voice on a hot summer night.
