The birth of my kid is maybe only days away - name suggestions?
OK, Americans. A new child's about to hit the sunlight, and this time it's my very own offspring coming to set the world on fire. We've got two alternative names lined up for the little'un:

If it's a boy: Aksel
In case of a girl: Karen Anna

but I'd love to hear your own suggestions as well! Something international please, we're Norwegians remember.

So then, post your opinion on the names chosen plus your own suggestions here and I'll bring them home to the missus for discussion ;)

I'M ABOUT TO BE A DAD! YIIIIPPPEEEEEEEEE!

2. Woo! Congratulations!
Now, I've always fancied naming a female child Tabasco.......or maybe just as a middle name!

Is Karen Anna going to be hyphenated, so that it's always said together (rather than first name=Karen, 2nd=Anna)? I think it works quite well, but make sure you steer away from some of the stupid US/Australian hyphenated forenames....

:-)

P.

20. The short version for Karen Anna in Norwegian would be
Kaia, which I really like. Alternatively, just Karen in daily speech.

22. Cheers - the blog's been forgotten about recently...
...I'll have it up and running like mad after the birth, though. There are loads of good biblical names - my wife's name is Rachel. I've always been a big fan of the name Miriam as well, but my old lady doesn't like it.

12. Congrats!
I've been BEGGING my baby to come out, but he's not budging.

Anyway, I like Leif. I tried to get it on our list but DH vetoed it. I like Bjorn, too. But I don't know what the name trends are like in Norway--maybe those aren't cool there right now.

our recently-born heir to the throne is called HRH Ingrid Alexandra, so the Alex name is all the vogue over here now...

19. Yo, yo, yo. Calm there. That was my grandad's name :(
And I like the name, it sounds good with a Norwegian pronounciation (the 'a' is flat, so it's not like the 'a' in say Axl Rose) and is an ancient Norwegian name.

Micah is a cool name though, although it would never go with the surname the kid'll have (Micah Lie Olsen? Come off it).

25. OK...I'm calm...I didn't know it was your grandfather's name...
I was thinking AXEL. So I withdraw my criticism. I'm sorry. I know only one kid named Micah, and they call him Cole. He's 10, and great. And his dad is Micah too. They're the only two I know. It's a name you don't hear anymore.

And yes, Micah Lie Olsen sounds fine. And it's unisexual...

23. Suggestions
I have a 4 month old son and his name is Jonas. If it were going to be a girl it would have been Josephine, Josie for short.

I wish you the best. After two days of being a mother I couldn't imagine life without the little guy.

24. I named both my sons to honor
their Poppop and my wifes uncle, who died in France in WW2:
1st son Kyle Wilson (Popop's name)
And my youngest: Christopher Benjamin
Honoring them is very satisfying to me.
I think you should go with the Granddad's name.

Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 10:22 AM by MrsMatt
Dagmar or Desideria (which is actually Swedish) for a girl.

on edit: I forgot to mention that your names are quite lovely (I personally think it's great to honor your ancestors - if I had a boy I'd love to name him Oskar after my grandfather, but with a French last name it would sound a little funny!)

Even though I am partial to James Christopher for a boy. But it's been taken already. I think honoring your grandfather is a wonderful thing to do. My son is named after his great great grandfather and my husband's favorite uncle. :hi:

Wish I had an international name for you! My favorite boys names have always been Jonathan, David, Michael and Eric. For girls they are Hannah, Erin and Emily. Whatever you choose, I wish your family the best. Congrats to you and your wife.
