34. aww, what a sweetpea.
I grew up with dogs. We always took in strays, because we lived out in the country where wastes of human skin took it upon themselves to DUMP dogs. We knew the dogs in question were so much better than the people who did that, and we couldn't resist their eyes. I was technically an only child, as my parents only produced one human baby, but I always had a yard full of siblings, who were treated as such.

Later in life after I moved out my parents got more picky and got really into adopting from a Bull Mastiff rescue, for personality reasons--but their latest pup was such a terror she needed a friend to help keep her in line. Enter Archie, a mid-size dog with a LOT of will who's a total mutt, but largely pit bull.

Giant snuggle bunny. My mom even whispers on the phone when talking to me late at night, because he's cuddled up against her in bed and she doesn't want to wake him. She puts the phone up against his nose so I can hear him snoring.

.
Some Republican state senator the other day wanted to
DISPUTE the idea that Arizona continues to be a political
laughingstock across the nation by saying something along
the lines of, "As opposed to a laughingstock, we're getting
calls of support from all over the country."
.
This video pretty much answers THAT lame defense.

23. Call me a skeptic, but...
I am calling BS on people enjoying washing their cast iron cookware.

Do they wash it? Yes. :( (They really really shouldn't but some people are dumb. Wipe out with a damp rag as soon as it can be handled, then pour some kosher salt in to act as a desiccant and return to heat for about 2 minutes.)

But do they enjoy it? I have never heard anybody say "Aw geez, I'm bored...I think I'm gonna go wash my skillet." and not meant it as a euphemism for masturbation.

I just can't ever pass up a quip.

I hate when I'm at dinner and some child is running underfoot and screaming, meanwhile the parents are either laughing, grinning like Cheshire cats or not paying any attention at all. Drives me nuts...if you cannot control your child in public, stay home. If you think your child acting out is amusing, well...you're an idiot.

Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 12:45 AM by LibDemAlways
in which I had my meal rudely interrupted by a cranky child who screamed and threw food and plates for a good 20 minutes while the parents ignored the tantrum. Fellow DUers told me I had no right to enjoy my meal and that I shouldn't go out if I didn't want to put up with that kind of behavior. Sorry, but there are DUers who feel others have no right to enjoy themselves in a restaurant.

But us nonsmokers have as much right to go out to a bar and enjoy it without the smelly, cancerous smoke polluting the air.

Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 01:12 AM by Withywindle
oh, and I'm a woman who is skinny because my parents are, it's inherited. I eat all the bacon I want (which is a lot) and still weigh 120.

Oh, and I shave my legs but NOT my crotch. Ever again. EW. My preference is that my partners, of either gender, don't either. (Did you miss that flame war? - it was EPIC.) But I don't judge people who shave or wax, per se, as long as they don't expect me to, er, go down there. Cause, well, EW. Personal squick. Even being half Brazilian, I find it a turnoff.

But I've known many adorable pit bulls. I love 'em. I love all animals. More than many people. (Another great flame war: yes, if my cat and my rapist were dying in a freezing river, I would save my cat first. If someone ELSE's cat and someone ELSE's rapist were dying in a freezing river, I would still save the cat first. I'm not a human-supremacist.) Big flame war there too.

But where's the anger at Rothlesburger? Dude's a serial rapist, yet hardly a peep about him. Most it costs him is six games and whatever hush money he's paying, and you don't see the pure hate threads towards him. I'm not big on hating anyone, but the different standard bothers me. :(

If someone is dumb enough to do that to their body and they can still perform, more power to them.

Getting a woman drunk, having your bodyguard confine her in a bathroom, then forcing her to have sex with you while she's saying "No, this is not cool, this is not okay," while your bodyguard blocks her friend from getting to you... That's a whole different type and level of criminality.

59. I can't believe no one's mentioned circumcision yet.
The--and I mean the--nastiest flamewars ever have been fought over that topic here. Circumcision now ranks high in my list of 10 Toxic Things You Should Never Discuss Online, right up there with organ donation, the fertility industry, prescription drug safety, vaccines, and autism.

That'll get you lectured on any forum on DU.

"Why do you watch that if there's something on it that's going to upset you?!!"
Because I get claustrophobic when I stick my head in the sand?

"Don't contribute to their ratings!!"
I don't. No cable box, no people meter, no data exchange.

"I refuse to watch that show!"
Yet you don't refuse to click on threads about it.
