Stuff you can't unwatch
I just watched a movie trailer I wish I hadn't seen. No, I'm not telling you which one because it was that disturbing.

What's your current "wish I hadn't seen that" moment/item?

1. Near the end (I think) of "Nothing in Common"...
.
...with Tom Hanks as the son and Jackie Gleason as the father (1986),
there's a scene where Hanks sees Dad's bare foot. His dad didn't take
care of himself and (I believe) had diabetes and his foot was all
ulcerated and maybe gangrenous.
.
DISTURBING visual image that took me a long time to purge.
.

48. that's not likely to give me nightmares
(but then again, pretty much nothing does)

My thought watching it was...ok, this guy's just nuts, because the whole idea is just stupid.

The suspense of what they're going to do or how they'll survive (or not) might be worth it (on DVD, not in the theater), but what he's trying to do is absurd, and whoever thought it up should be ashamed of coming up with such a poor plot device.

64. Would You Believe I Found That Movie At A Neighborhood Blockbuster?

Years ago I was looking through the foreign film section at a Blockbuster in suburban Houston, and there was "In The Realm Of The Senses." I rented it (naturally), took it home and comfirmed that it was the film I'd read so much about over the years. I then had the pleasurable task of going back to that Blockbuster and informing the manager that the foreign film section featured a pornographic film---beautifully and artfully photographed, directed and acted---but X-rated pornographic, nonetheless. The manager took a look at it in the back room and came back out a few minutes later, his face ashen, mumbling his thanks to me. That's the last time I saw "Senses" at that store.......

40. The trick to self memory erasure, is not to think about it.
Edited on Sun Apr-25-10 06:44 AM by RandomThoughts
You have to be fast, but every time you do not think about something the dentrite connections deteriate.

Simply not talking about things on the news, makes them fade from memory.

And mentioning something often, strengthens how often a person thinks about something.

That is the principle behind the big lie. Also why when you stop worring about silly things that are not worth worring about, you start to see things more clearly, because you do not spend much thought on worry topics.

Mostly I try to avoid watching things I don't want to remember, but there is also closing off thought or going inner thought during the event to not see it, and keep it from imprinting. But still being able to think on the implications of such things.

But then again I can clear thought completly, no image or words if I want. But only because I worked on that for years. Although sometimes restarting thought is a bit tough. Hard to explain, might be what some do when meditating, I used it for focus on things like pool.

Edit: To explain that last part better, many times it is possible to live in your own thoughts, where your input is always overran by your thoughts, so everytime you see something, some thought is right there to tell you what it might mean. It is also possible to actually be aware of things and see things, by not thinking when you observe, but just trying to obsorb what you experiance. That is what I mean by clearing ones mind.

46. This is also why grief counseling after a trauma can actually be harmful.
People should have access to counseling if they aren't recovering on their own and really feel a need for it. But research is showing that automatically assuming people will benefit from talking about traumatic experiences is false. Pushing them to talk about traumatic experiences can actually strengthen the memory and the PTSD response.

In one study, people funnelled into grief therapy after a disaster actually had MORE PTSD symptoms a year later than those who just went home with their families.

Where the rebels had the Russian soldier pinned down, and then slit his throat. Also, the one where they were executing Russian soldiers by cutting their heads off one by one, and one of them tried to run away, only to be shot.

I'm not going to describe them in any more detail. I could, but just thinking about them is sickening. I think that videos like this are important to watch, though - especially for anybody who thinks war can be a good thing. However, I can't say that I wish I hadn't seen them. It was a sobering experience, and helped solidify my anti-war views.

71. The "Fat Camp" one was awful!
Never could watch the end of the episode where Butters gets a ninja star in his eye ("Good Times With Weapons.")

72. Here's mine:
Lemonparty.org. Seriously nsfw. Or children. Or humans in general. It will make you scald your own eyes out with bleach. I'm not kidding. You have been warned.

Sadly, I wasn't warned.

75. Oh god, too much to mention.
1) Legend of the Overfiend. ANY of the movies is enough to ruin your mind forever. I couldn't get past #3. So much gore, so much crap voice acting, so much rape. Whomever made this was sick, really sick. It's from Japan and NO I won't tell you where to find it. It's not worth it, TRUST ME!!!
2) Embodiment of Evil (2008) the last of the "Coffin Joe" movies from Brazil. This movie is 7 ways from Sunday sick. There are no good guys, only bad guys (the weirdo self-spanking priest) and worse guys (the crooked cops) vs an amoral monster (who's a combination of Hannibal Lecter, Jigsaw, and Terrell Owens). Imagine a smartass guy who kills you with weird shit and brags about how good he is at killing and how much you suck. Oh and he has horrible nightmares.
3) This one movie from Japan with a guy who rubs women's bottoms on the subway. It's horrible times 10 and is like watching a screed from a rapist as to why rape is OK. I blame THIS MOVIE as the source of all the subway groping incidents.
4) Battlefield Earth. Pass the brain bleach, please!
5) The Core. What a waste of time.
