6. Jennifer Batten is a great guitar player.
She does a wicked version of John Coltrane's "Giant Steps".

8. HAH!!
Much as I appreciate Karen's voice, she is NOWHERE in the league with Laurie and Meredith in terms of composition and musiciality and breadth of ability, etc.

23. Actually, Karen Carpenter was just as accomplished a drummer...
as she was a singer. She had licks that Gene Krupa would even admire. But Richard Carpenter wasn't as accomplished a singer, so Karen got stuck with the heavy lifting when it came to vocals. And the rest, as they say, is rock-n-roll history, and thank the Goddess for that.

11. I don't even know who these people are
and I'm talking about women who compose music for, like, serious theater. Not that rock or jazz musician women don't rock and aren't wonderful (go Billie Holiday and Sheryl Crow!)...

Carla Bley? Who's that? Come on. Pick people we know.

:-)

17. Yes, exceptional talent.
But not composers.

(and they are of breathtaking beauty, as well, though perhaps Midori beats them on that one... :-) )

I really like Laurie Anderson, but I think Meredith has a broader more complex body of work. Interesting question.
