Durham DUers - I am now a Durham-ite!
I sign the papers for my new home today!

The Gay has landed!

Pm me if you would like to party at some point -
I still have to have my furniture shipped from Cali.

2. Welcome back, xchrom! Durham is the worst laid-out town on the planet:
streets wind and twist and change name unpredictably -- but just learn ten or fifteen major streets, and then if you have no idea where you are, keep driving, cuz within a couple of minutes you'll be back on familiar ground. This was once a major tobacco town with a solid union and and a famous black business district, Hayti. The tobacco industry is gone, and Hayti was bulldozed by the department of highway beatification some two decades ago to make room for a freeway. It's a blue blue blue town. Chapel Hill and Raleigh are right around here somewhere -- and if you like lobbying in DC, the nation's capitol is only about four or five hours up the road

3. Thank you so much!
I love it here - Durham has amazing charm - in spite of getting lost a half a mile
from where you want to be.

4. If you happen to be a beer fan...
Dain's Place on 9th Street is awesome - ask for a shortbus. For beer you can take home, Sam's Quick Stop is 3 or 4 blocks away, right past the Main St. intersection where 9th becomes Erwin. Welcome to the Triangle!

5. I know Dain's and I love Sams.
That's where I get my American spirits and new castle for my friends.

I hope to see you around.

8. Good for you! I lived there for seven years and loved it.
I seldom get back but I imagine it's not so terribly different, except for Duke Medical Center, which is twice the size it was when I worked there.

16. Charlotte....mr blm works for UNC Chapel Hill and eventually we'll all move there.
Would have moved over a year ago, but, had some serious medical problems I've been dealing with, plus a very weird housing market, especially weird since Charlotte is a big banking town.

23. Welcome to the Triangle-- from just down the road in Chapel Hill.

PS: We left Santa Monica in 1988 and have never looked back. I only wish we'd come straight to Chapel Hill instead of spending 6 years in Missouri and 6 years in Nebraska.
