Any True Blood fans here
They're repeating the first season here. I'm completely obsessed to the point where waiting for new episodes can be a painful process for me. Ever since watching it I've fallen in love with the setting and indeed sunk my teeth into other entertainments pertaining to the American South. My favourite characters are Lafayette and, for all his faults, Jason - there's something about him that I find compulsive. But that goes for them all. How they've executed Sookie's ability allows for such direct and harsh, blunt writing - from another angle - it feels fresh and different to me. The mixture of drama, horror and more comedic moments is wonderful. It can be a riot.

I've seen up to episode 10. I hate to make limitations, but I'd love to hear any thoughts, just not any that went beyond that mark into unknown territory.

Thank you very much.

5. Its great
Its the first time that I am a bigger fan of the television production than the written work. The books are not really to me taste, but the show is amazing. My favorite character is Erik. He is my favorite vampire. I'll take my vampires in the nordic viking class any day.

The first season was great. IT introduced the world of sookie in an exciting and fast paced manner.

6. It's interesting
I've seen most of the first season and compared to the other actors Alexander Skarsgård isn't in the show so much compared to Anna, Stephen or Ryan for example. Still his appearances are memorable and I found my mind lingered considerably on the scenes he's been in.

After all that I've heard about him, I'm sure his prominence increases as the show progresses.

33. I think Alan Ball, the creator of the show, really wanted to expand the books
The books were ok but the characters were hardly fleshed out. With the first season they had many of the same plots found in the first book but they really fleshed out the characters. I thought the book was mostly just about the romance of Sookie & Bill with a small murder mystery in the background - almost borderline bad romance novel. But the TV show really built up the murder mystery and fleshed out the character of Jason, gave him a girlfriend who was a part of the murders and showed just what a hounddog Jason Stackhouse really is.

Tara never existed until the 2nd book and even then she was a minor character but I like how they really built her up - Sookie needs a girlfriend she can confide with about her feelings. And because they built Tara into Sookie's lifetime friend from childhood who was practically a part of the Stackhouse family, it helped flesh out Sookie's gifts. In the book, it wasn't something she readily talked about with others but more like comments/asides made in the book - that's something hard to flesh out on TV without making Sookie look like she's talking to herself. Instead you better understand her because she's very close to Tara who practically was raised at the STackhouse home because Tara's mom is an alcoholic.

7. An Aussie version of Louisiana
Edited on Thu Apr-22-10 03:54 PM by The Backlash Cometh
What's not to like? There was something so other worldly about the set that I always felt like it was an Aussie production a la Xena from New Zealand.

A Louisiana, which is not like any Louisiana we really know.

8. lol that's an interesting thing to say
Edited on Thu Apr-22-10 04:06 PM by bixente
It never occurred to me, actually.

By the way, that's where I live - Melbourne, Australia.

When I seen the first two episodes, it came to me that the setting made its presence felt so much with its denseness it was akin to an extra character, that's how I felt.

The creator/producer/director of most episodes is an American, so there's that.

16. That's me
At the moment the show is being repeated on Showcase, and what's nifty is that it has an equivalent time shift channel, Showcase +2, where the same programs are screened two hours later. I catch it then as it's quieter as I loathe being disturbed and respond similarly as above - when people are around, even if they're quiet, I'm tense as hell. lol

15. *spoiler alert* (sort of) A friend was on the set a few days ago
and he posted this on Facebook:

True Blood fans -- I saw Bill Compton and Jessica today. They were filming a scene in Sookie's house. Bill's mouth was dripping blood as he sucked a white naked body on the floor. I think it was a dummy, the camera only showed the back and rear end. A wolf ran out of the house and Jessica ran after it. Bill called out "Jessica! Don't!" and chased after her. I watched them film two takes of the scene.

So make of that what you will!

(He doesn't work on the series-I think he was on the lot for other business).

21. Spoiler Alert about your spoiler alert.
One of my guilty pleasures got to be the books. Not that they are sticking closely to the story arc of those, but if they do at all Jason is about to get involved with the local were-critter population.

And since you're in the first season, I assume you haven't met Mary Ann. Hold onto your hair.

I saw a story in The New Orelans Times Picayune about the little town in LA where they did the outside scenes of Bon Temps, shall we say, under the influence of Mary Ann. It was quite the event!

28. I've actually recently met her
Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 07:21 PM by bixente
remember she was introduced at the tail-end of season one. I already like her and I enjoyed her exchanges with Tara. I get the strong feeling there's a ton of (mindblowing) stuff yet to be revealed about her, but it's there in waiting. For example - she has a connection with Sam, but that's yet to be explored.

Tara also spoke to a young man with a lovely soft voice, he was playing a guitar. I forget his name.

27. Just saw an advertisement..
on HBO they're doing mini episodes starting May 2. Six episodes, and they're not part of season 3. YAY!!!

Indeed waiting sucks. But in between waiting and figuring out the baffling cliffhangers left by True Blood's second season finale, HBO has treated us with several promos to sink our teeth into as we pass the time. The latest of which is a video that promotes six new mini episodes, which won't come from last season nor will it be featured on the third season.

The best thing about the True Blood mini episodes is that it's also written by creator Alan Ball and it features almost the entire cast of the vampire series. The special feature, entitled "A Drop of True Blood," will begin airing on Sunday, May 2 following reruns of the sophomore season at 8pm. Of course, this is all part of the campaign leading up to the new season, which kicks off on June 13 on HBO
