1. Instant classic
Impressive (feature) debut by director Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son). And the real model work (instead of CGI) lends it an old-time sci-fi film look. Good performances and very thought provoking. Wish they would make more sci-fi like this.

Trailer for those who missed it and might want to rent it on video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twuScTcDP_Q

3. I agree!
Some of the scenes looked like they were right out of 2001. Which is a good thing.

4. I think it is a metaphor for a few things.
There could be a few life comments in the movie. Maybe even an explanation for why DNA sets off aging at a certain age. Many movies use a timed life time in them, and the aging mechanism of DNA is sorta like that.

It also could be commenting on the callous nature that people are treated, you work, then when you get old, they take your pension and discard you with a new worker replacement.

There are a few other possible meanings, but it was a good movie.

However, and figure this out, he had a vision of his daughter, that was never part of his implanted memory. He could not have known about that since his implant memory and cloning was when his daughter was young.

So how did he see Eve in the chair, and when he was driving the rover? Because he was more then a clone.

6. He saw his daughter in real life
On the tv/phone. She was in her 20s. So it was probably 15 years or so later. In real life, the person they cloned (her father) would have been 15 years older. Remember, she calls for her dad? That's when he turns off the phone because he realized that the real him is on earth.

He was driving the rover and crashed it. It was still a couple weeks before he was supposed to return to earth. But the next clone went out to retrieve him. He didn't know that instead of returning to earth, they were just disposed of.

8. He saw his daughter three times in the movie version I saw.

Once at the begining as a mirage sitting in a chair, then he saw her again, and she was the reason he crashed the rover.

Then later after being rescued he saw her for the first time in real life on the uplink you mentioned.
