God, this place is slow. The same threads have been hanging here
for two days. I remember when I was a youngster in the Lounge...

1. I agree. The DU server must have been dropped in molasses.
Hi, crimmy! :hi:

'cause everybody else is asleep!

4. Yes.
I sort of hate the fact that I look for human interaction online, but there it is: I do, especially on weekend nights. But you, you go to bed!

5. My dear crim son!
It has been slow in here...

A lot of people are now gone, and that has changed the character of the place, for good or ill.

It's great to see you and Aristus tonight, sweetie!

10. And it's a pleasure to see you too, Peg!
When I come here it's like returning to my youth, however ridiculous that might sound. A lot of old DUers are on Facebook so I still feel a connection which probably is not real.

I hope you are well!

13. I am well, and even though I too am on Facebook,
I don't feel the connection there the same way I feel it here...

I'm writing, and hoping to get into a Masters of Fine Arts program in 2011...we shall see!

Seriously, it doesn't seem that much different to me except there aren't any more flame wars or call outs of people. I prefer boring to contentious assholes myself.

11. I don't think I'm referring to the choice of boring or contentious.
I joined in 2004 and so I remember a different bunch of people, and more activity (although not after midnight). The people I knew well have disappeared... perhaps they have lives. :D

21. Of course, but you know....sometimes I think we just pine
for the past and sometimes forget the bad times. It's human nature..but I remember when you were getting shit for complaining about your piano needing repair. There were some horrible comments to you and I felt terrible for you. Point being, things weren't always as rosy as we make them out to be when remembering old times.

I hope you're doing well, Crim son....

22. Snowball, I am touched that you remember that.
Naturally you would not know about the PM I got from a well-known and often contentious DUer, for an offer to send me a new keyboard. She and her Love had talked it over and... But you are right about the pining. I think we were initially brought together by a hatred of what the shrub was doing to our country. Beyond that, we found compassion (or not) that was very personal. I cannot think of even one person who was so dreadful that I wouldn't want to hear from them again, and that is the Deity's honest truth.

I wish you well too, Snowball. Truly

23. And a chipper "Good Morning" crim son, from over here!
When I get up at 4 a.m. over here, it's only 10 p.m. on the East Coast, The Lounge is hopping - and I have to get ready to go to work. Talk about frustrating.

By the time I get home, it's noon on the East Cost, 9 a.m. on the West Coast, many people are at work. Still no luck.

26. I believe there has been great improvement in the breads
offered in the States, where I had lived for 20 years. Before I visited Southeast Texas again in 2009, I hadn't been to America for 16 years - and what a great surprise! Really good bread! And that wasn't even in a metropolitan area, but a town of about 100.000, Beaumont to be exact. Wow!

In Germany, for the past 40 years or so there has been a great influx of immigrants from Turkey. Turkish cuisine uses fresh fruit and vegetables a great deal and so, over the years, many small family-owned Turkish produce stores have been established, and they sell wonderful fruit and vegetables at a reasonable price. Granted, it's a bit more than the supermarket charges but is still affordable.

If you buy - let's just say - a couple of peaches (peach junkie here!) at one of these small stores, the owner will pick them out for you, carefully put them in a little brown paper bag, and once you take a bite of that peach... the flavor, the juiciness, the texture! I have never, ever been disappointed by bad quality in one of these little stores or stands at the market square.

What a difference from the plastic bucket full of peaches bought at the supermarket "on special" during summer, and when you get them home they're hard as rocks. So you try to get them to ripen a little more. Only to find out that they've completely bypassed the peach stage, turned into tasteless, mealy mush and have been a complete waste of money.

Here's to good food, crim son!

I've never had the chance to visit the Northeast, especially Maine, and really regret it. There are pictures in my mind from various novels about Maine's countryside, the ocean, the people... Can you tell me a little more? Are you a native Mainer?

A big :pals: across the Atlantic!

there are people here who have called out people, who have insulted people in the most vulgar way, who have abused people's kindnesses... people who are contentious assholes...

and other than the boredom... contentious assholes are still plentiful, it seems.

ymmv.

33. I haven't been a part of any lounge flame wars
at least that I know of...

however, the lounge, imo, isn't as much fun as it used to be. or at least not lately. that's what I've noticed.

maybe that's because Dr. Strange doesn't post here 24/7. He's a god. I worship the pixels he types on. he makes me want to buy a strap-on so that he can have my virtual babies.

they all come back. Even the ones who say how horrible the place is/was. They still come back. That's what makes it fun for those of us who never left.

I remember your posts and I always thought you were interesting (some times were rough and some gave you a hard time here.) You should stick around! :)

37. It's like that all over, even in GD
It's just the slow times, politically, no huge outrages.

Health Care "Reform" is done, for what it's worth. Teabagging is entertaining, but just a sideshow. Wall Street regulation may be a big (f*ing) deal, but it's really boring without public beheadings.

How are you?
