Poll question: Favorite bread?
So, if you had to choose one type, and one type only, to eat for a year - no straying to other breads - what would it be? And why?

And what to go with it? Olive oil and balsamic vinegar? Brie? Peanut butter?

There are sooo many different kinds, I realize the choices I offer are pretty limited. So please talk to me about bread! YUM! :hi:

1. other: samoon
We've had it almost every day for years. My waistline's in the unfortunate position of being within walking distance of a place with a kiln so I can buy it hot.

4. resistance is futile
I don't know why it's so addicting.

The worst part is that it's versatile, too - good plain, with butter and tomato, with oil and zaatar, with brie, or as a regular sandwich.

elevates an ordinary ham and swiss sandwich to elegant heights.

not bad with roast beast or turkey either.

Truthfully I haven't met a bread I didn't like, but that's what I like best.

8. For what application?
I'd use totally different breads for say, an appetizer prior to Italian food, than for making a sandwich, but I don't necessarily like one better than the other.

9. That's a hard question to answer,
because I like to get different breads to go with what I cook, or for various sandwich toppings.

There's one that I like all by itself while it's still warm, just with some butter: It's a whole wheat baguette with little pieces of dried tomato and chopped black olives in the dough. Goood!

12. Great Harvest Bread Company...
.
...used to make a jalapeno-Cheddar round loaf that was filled
with so many HUGE chunks of good Cheddar that each slice was
a sandwich all by itself.
.
Don't see it on their current menu.
.
Otherwise, a fairly soft HIGH-fiber multi-grain for all-purpose
bread -- Milton's is fairly high in fiber and delicious.

that made naan with methi leaves. That was the best thing ever. They changed management and took that off the menu, but when it was there, I could have happily eaten that every day.

18. Um, no thanks.
There is no one kind of bread I'd eat for a year, without variation.

I like WAY too many different kinds of bread for that, and I bore too easily.

Pillsbury has an Italian bread you bake yourself for about 35 minutes, and if you brush it with butter first and sprinkle on some Italian herbs, it's freaking amazingly good. For something that was in a refrigerated can less than an hour ago, anyway. The keys are making it crusty, with either butter or olive oil before baking; and the herbs (oregano, basil).

If one of your choices was "fresh" with no other qualifications, I'd take it. Fresh pita bread: awesome. Fresh rye or pumpermickel: great. Fresh French or Italian: wonderful. Fresh bagels: sign me up. Fresh bread of almost any kind, and I jump on it. Most grocery breads, not fresh, and not all that good.

Just the plain version topped with olive oil, rosemary and a little coarse salt. Of course, it would be even better if used in a pesto, tomato and provolone panini.

24. I have a Zojirushi automatic breadmaker. (Yeah, I know, I know)
All the same, I have one. And some automatic breadmaker recipes that I've picked up off the web, and out of a couple of cheapo Automatic Breadmaker Recipe Books.

This thing is great! It does all kinds of stuff. To include that you can load the thing up, set an internal timer, and the bread is finished just as you are getting up in the morning. The smell alone is wonderful. It tastes wonderful. No preservatives. It will even make pizza dough. Oh, the Banana Bread is to die for ....

25. It depends on whether I have to make it myself
If I have to make it, then plain ole french/sourdough.

If someone delivers it to me weekly, then Orowheat Oatnut with Seeds. Must be the "with seeds" version, it's the sunflower seeds that make this extra good, imho.
