So, the first Sex and the City movie was kind of awful. Any takers for the sequel?

It looks pretty obnoxious. But I did enjoy most of the HBO show ... some of the time.

I certainly won't see it in theaters; haven't been to a movie in over 2 years. But I *might* rent it a few months from now.

1. It was most definitely awful.
And I did enjoy most of the series. I'll probably Netflix it at some point, or not.

2. the last season (maybe a little more) of SATC was kind of
yuk, as well. Just too much, they'd lost the real NYC in favor of the super-rich NYC and the movie was an extension of that. Seems the second one is more of the same shopping and rich girl outfits. I hope not, though.

5. I find Carrie so annoying...

that I wanted Big to dump her. She was completely out of control during the wedding planning, and while I don't condone the way he did it, I felt no sympathy for her. Plus, Samantha's cavalier dumping of Smith, who stayed by her through thick and thin, bothered me. If she felt she was being consumed by his career (even though she helped make him), there were ways to remedy that.

I had to laugh when they took off to Mexico and just happened to have all the snazzy "rich girl outfits" at the ready, right down to the aquatic-themed accessories. So silly.

There were some beautiful moments in the TV series -- Miranda bonding with Brady as she held him up in the air next to his crib, Carrie in a flowing robe running to Aiden in slow-mo, Smith flying back from Canada to be with Samantha, Charlotte and Harry with the Christmas ornament -- but the movie had none of that.

6. I agree. Carrie was
such an annoying sh*t the last season (or two, maybe) and even more so in the movie. And I have to say this, too, but Jennifer Hudson as her assistant was terrible. She's been v. good in other things, but in SATC she was so wooden and awful.

Sam dumping Smith was also stupid.

You listed some of my favorite parts of the series. Some were really funny, too - the scene with Robert and Miranda and Steve with the tampon in his nose

I liked the series much better when they were just talking, not tossing out these dumb little puns. Ugh.

And it looks like this movie's trip to Abu Dhabi has them all kitted out with beautiful rich-girl middle eastern clothing. Jeez. :eyes:

All that said, though, I'll watch the second movie when it's released on DVD...

8. As if it couldn't get any more contrived!
I had no idea they were heading to Abu Dhabi, but just found this:

I'll still probably Netflix it at some point, just to see if it "redeems" itself...

4. I'll probably wait for it to come out on video. I understand it will be less
sad than the first movie.

9. Unless the main plot line is Carrie dumps Big for Aidan, then no.
John Corbett *is* in it... bastards... so now I will at some point have to see it. But the first movie was so irredeemably awful, I'll have to do it in secret.

Big is, and has always been, an asshole. The determination of the writers for Carrie to end up with Big has turned her into an asshole.

Samantha dumping Smith was a huge mistake- he saw her through cancer and she dumps him because he's cramping her style? WTF?

I just thinks these movies are a big mistake. They ended the series with everyone in a good relationship. And now they have to come up with increasingly implausible reasons to get them out of those relationships so that they can keep the petrifying corpse of the story going.

They should only do movies for series that were canceled too soon, found a real audience on DVDs and still have loose ends (like Firefly, Arrested Development, Pushing Daisies, Kyle XY, even the 4400.) SATC had a good, full run. They stopped making the TV series because they ran out of ideas. Let it die!!!

And I just know in this one they're going to break up Charlotte and Harry for no good reason except that Charlotte has nothing else to do.
