Teh airlines? Cwazy!
RYANAIR, a low cost Brit carrier, says they will install pay toilets.
http://www.ryanair.com/en

Spirit Airlines, advertised as THE low cost U.S. carrier, will begin charging $45 for carry on bags that must go in the overhead compartment.
http://www.spiritair.com/

This is just insane.

We recently paid $35 per checked bag, each way, for our flights from Pensacola to Boston.
That's another $140 for the trip.
The ticket price used to be less than that.

Ferk it.
I'm driving.
:-(

1. Yeah I was reading about that. Crazy
The bag fees are making alot of people take carry-on only. I swear on my flight from Baltimore to Phoenix there was maybe 10 pieces of checked luggage.....

2. I was around in the good ol' days.
I was a pilot for TWA.
When I flew with my family (on free passes) we always flew first class.
Champagne on boarding.
Hors d'oeuvres as soon as the gear went up and the No Smoking/Seat Belt sign went off.
(You could smoke on airplanes back then.)

Lobster, caviar, cheeses, shrimp, etc.
Free booze, and the good stuff.
Top brands.

Meals were truly gourmet, at least in First.
My favorite was the Chateaubriand.
Medium rare.
Carved at your seat.
After dinner, some coffee and a brandy.
:-)

Coach meals weren't bad either.
And free.

Never again.

3. The airlines are trying very hard to price themselves from miserable to unbearable
Those two instances you just mentioned sound like desperation moves.

I know that Spirit is not the most financially secure airline out there.

4. I just heard that US Airways and United want to merge.
Oh goodie.:eyes: You know my flight out to Phoenix was five hours..no movie or anything like that. Of course there was a box meal if I wanted to pay for it..and if I wanted a friggen pillow and blanket (it was a early flight too lots of sleepers) I could pay for it...Then near the end of the flight a solicitation for APPLYING FOR A CREDIT CARD! Geezus flying has become unpleasant.

6. How long before stand up seats on airplanes?
As in $100 to sit, $75 to stand...

9. Re: Spirit Airlines
On CNN this morning, they were trying to spin it as disaggregation of the ticket price... that way you only pay for what you use.

What a crock. It's just money-grubbing; stockholders that need just a bit more every year.

"Hey... this cool 300 grand I got for sitting on the board of directors a couple times a year is great, but next year, it needs to be 350."

It will get to the point that the market can't bear any more cost, and the bubble will burst. Maybe then, someone will figure out a way to run an airline that isn't idiotic.

10. To fly for $99 in a first-class seat,
I will fly on an airline that charges for carry-ons. In a heartbeat.
