7. If someone gave me one I wouldn't keep it.
I've got a laptop held together with hot glue and duct tape. I like it.

When it dies or I lose it, I'll build another.

But it's too ugly to die, too ugly to steal, and too big to lose. In short, it's my perfect computer for traveling.

8. Well, if it had a USB port... then it would need a second one or it sucks donkey dicks!
If it had a camera, then it would suck since it wouldn't have 16 mega pixel.
If it had a SD card slot, it would still suck because they left off a SCSI port.
If it has full OSX on it, it would suck, cuz it should have been installed with Linux instead!
If it had Flash, then it would suck because they won't have a Flash blocker for me to avoid annoying Flash ads!
If you could see the screen in broad daylight, then it would suck because nobody watches movies unless it's in the dark!
If it had e-ink. then it would suck, because it's just "an oversized Kindle".
If it had Hulu, then it would suck, because Hulu shows idiotic TV shows.
Even though it's half the price everybody expected it to be, and cheaper than most other tablet computers, it's still too expensive.

Am I missing anything?;)

32. A non-issue? Maybe, maybe not.
It was kind of dumb to release it before that functionality was in place, whatever the justification. I mean, my $8.00 TracFone can multitask, right out of the box.

If Bill Gates had done something similarly peculiar, Apple's Acolytes would have swooped in to mock him, his product, his other products, and All Things Microsoft.

Just like they do every time he launches a new system prior to getting it all worked out...

9. Well, it should start out with the basics.
Since it's basically a big damn IPhone, it should have phone capabilities. It should also accommodate flash and USB ports.

Those are things it should have had in the very beginning, let alone any of the things listed. :eyes:

10. OK - has to have a preloaded 10TB of public domain reading materials
Already installed.

This is supposed to replace the library, right?

Like the iPad replaced the record collection.

So its gotta have everything from the bible, to Shakespeare, to the Vedas, Baghavad Givta, Oddessy, Iliad, and Aenid.

And add Mark Twain, Rudyard Kipling, etc...

And THEN - it must be an excellent portable database of all lit.

When the app is available, there will a TON of free books you can download.

Looking forward to that. Even though I have no desire for a Kindle or a Nook. I like to literally curl up with a good book. For travel, though, it has definite advantages.

16. You don't understand
It has to be there, already

You want people to already have things they need locally - and it would cost nothing.

So say you come across a Rimbaud reference in "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 72." You want to look it up, right?

And - this is very important - you need at least 1TB for it to be of use. Add all that in there and you're talking 500TB for something to be perfect for the job.

Oh, and you need to be able to swap the library around as easily as you swap credit cards.

Just how important is Flash to you? Do you visit flash sites every day and watch videos? Is it really so essential to the internet that it's impossible to function without it... at least for you? Of those sites that you do watch videos regularly, are you aware that they may have a non-flash version for browsers that don't have flash, or are you sure the ones you visit don't? Are you playing Flash games? Those games that require mouse clicks and will not work with a touch interface?

Or... are you listening to all the bloggers, tech pundits, Flash developers, and Adobe who are telling you that Flash is essential and the internet cannot function without it, and your nodding?

And given its ubiquity in both use and support there's really no reason not to have it these days short of "we want to be rid of this."

Thanks for the snide condescension, though. That was really necessary, wasn't it?

26. Actually, my apologies.
I guess I did come off as snide. It's just that before the iPad was announced, most people were sick of Flash, and annoyed by all the pop up ads that follow the mouse around a site... so much so that Flash blocking software became popular. That, and nobody really even cared about Flash or even knew what it did.

Then all of the sudden, iPad was announced, and just like the iPhone before it, Flash is the most important thing to prevent a nuclear winter. And to hear Adobe boast that "90% of the internet runs on Flash" belies the fact that 90% of that 90% are annoying ads.

Now, it is also true that Adobe has not been able to make any version of their flashes reliable for not only Macs, but for most touch screen interfaces and especially smart phones. Flash 10 is supposed to solve that, but it's not ready until September, and the iPad is out now. So what is Apple to do? Load a buggy, memory hogging, largely incompatible with touch screens version of Flash, to where if it clogs up the iPad, the users blame Apple instead of Adobe with it, or release it the way it is, and get Adobe to fix the problems with their software first?

So, yes. There are perfectly valid reasons why it's not there.

To make it worth while I think I would need the $699 one, and that is just to much money for what it does. I would love it as a reader but $499 for the basic one is still to much money. I have a laptop, desktop and just got a nook (love it does just what I want nothing more)if the next gen comes down in price and up in power I will take another look.
