Gellar Won't Appear in 'Angel' Finale
http://apnews.myway.com//article/20040325/D81HI4D00.html

RADNOR, Pa. (AP) - Sarah Michelle Gellar won't appear in the series finale of "Angel," the spinoff of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in which she played the title role.

Joss Whedon, the show's executive producer, told TV Guide for its online edition that he didn't invite Gellar to appear in the final episode because he didn't want it to "revolve around a guest star."

"I want to end the show with the people who've been in the trenches together, the characters who have lived - and occasionally died - together, the regulars," Whedon said.

He said he invited Gellar to appear in the second-to-last episode, but she wasn't available because she was in Tokyo working on the horror film "The Grudge" when the show was being shot...

1. Angel Not Dead Yet?
Are reports of the death of The WB's Angel exaggerated? The IGN FilmForce Web site, citing anonymous sources, reported rumors that the network is in talks with Fox and Mutant Enemy, which produce Angel, about a possible sixth season, even though The WB has already announced that Angel will disappear at the end of the current fifth season. A source, posting on a WB bulletin board, reported the talks, the site said.

Other posts have suggested that The WB is going to be taking a close look at the ratings for upcoming episodes, including repeats, and basing its decision on whether or not to revive the show on them.

Another source reported that Sky One, the satellite network owned by Rupert Murdoch, has been told that talks for a sixth season of the vampire drama are underway and that there will be a new season available, the site reported.

2. Seems to me...

...that Joss going on about "ending the show" in the article I posted would pretty much squash those rumors.

He's got that Firefly movie to worry about now.

3. He may just be publicly hedging his bets...
He may be just doing it just in case.
He doesn't want to get people's hopes up.

6. I hope so.....
and I've been so mad they took Angel off the air and are airing double Smallvilles too. :grr: :grr:

I like Smallville, but I don't want it to replace Angel. Supposedly the WB wants to bring back Dark Shadows. I love it when I was 7 but I don't see how DS could be as good as Angel.

I like Smallville and all, but not showing Angel reruns, especailly if they are going to cancel it is just mean.

11. You got that right!
Plus I am no left hanging about what would have happened to that whole Fred as devil/god with no minions storyline. I thought that was great Fred was finally getting some quality dramatic time.

5. Hollywood is remaking "The Grudge"?
Yet another awesome Asian movie awaits DVD release in North America because a Hollywood studio wants to "surprise" viewers with their shitty remake . . .

Save 'Angel' Campaign Takes Flight
Sunday March 21 8:53 PM ET

"Angel" acolytes are nothing if not devoted, determined and organized.

Fans of Joss Whedon's soon-to-be-canceled WB Network drama series sprung into action last month once it became official that the spawn of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" would get the big spike in May. The Save Angel postcards and full-page ads have been flowing into The Hollywood Reporter and other publications for weeks, but "Angel" fans distinguished themselves from past fan-fueled salvage initiatives last week by hiring (at $700 a day) a billboard truck to drive around Los Angeles and park at strategic locations (including THR's Wilshire Boulevard offices, Warner Bros. and the WB, Paramount, UPN, HBO and 20th Century Fox) for maximum impact and, of course, free media exposure. ("We will follow 'Angel' to hell . . . or another network," the billboard promises.)

8. I thought I heard UPN declined
Doubtful a network will pick another Whedon show up off another network, with the precedent Buffy set when they did it.

9. no the buzz is that...
The WB might keep it if the ratings spike enough once the new episodes start airing on April 14th.

The response to this cancellation has been HUGE.
