We changed?

3. "made out of the delicatist soap-bubble stuff, with rainbow hues dreaming around over it"
First, his clothes thinned out so you could see him through it, very neat and trim, a good skeleton; next the bones disappeared and nothing was left but the empty form--just a statue, perfect and beautiful, made out of the delicatist soap-bubble stuff, with rainbow hues dreaming around over it and the furniture showing through it the same as it would through a bubble; then--poof! it was gone!

From Mark Twain's No. 44, The Mysterious Stranger

5. Cantares - Antonio Machado
Everything passes and still remains
but our destiny is to pass
to pass and to make roads
that are wakes upon the sea.

I never pursued glory,
nor will my songs persist
in man's memory;
I love subtle worlds,
weightless and gentile,
like soap bubbles.

I love to see them painted
in blue and crimsom, as they fly
under the deep blue sky they tremble
and suddenly burst...
I never pursued glory.

traveler, it is your footsteps
on the road, and nothing more;
traveler, there are no roads,
you make the roads with your steps.

By walking you make a road
and when you turn around to look
you see a road you will never,
never again step upon.

traveler, there are no roads,
only wakes upon the sea.

- Antonio Machado
