I miss my dog, Lily.
I put her down on 2/11.

The grief is still terrible.

I keep looking for her.

Her ashes are in a little box...that is all that is left of her.

Every night, I caress the box and tell her I love her.

She was a fucking pain in the ass, but I think that made me love her more.

For those that understand...the death of a pet can be as bad as the death of a human.

Someday, I hope to see her again.

It probably sounds silly for a grown man to be saying this, but it is how I feel.

No need to respond...just getting it off my chest.

3. I know my friend
I have Piglets ashes in an urn on my bookshelf. I take her into my bedroom sometimes and sleep with her urn or I put it on my bedside table.
It was like losing a daughter for Markus and me. My heart goes out to you Lefty. You have lost a member of your family. Rest in peace Lily.

5. My wallpaper is a picture of Smokey, who died 23 years ago
on Mar 15. It's my favorite pic of him and it makes me smile. I've had several dogs since Smokey and will remember them all with tears, no matter how long ago. to you.....we have all been there.

6. hi, LeftyFingerPop

I understand. I don't have that awful crushing feeling in my chest anymore (it's been 13 months) but I still miss my beloved Tommycat. The loss is part of loving an animal companion (unless you have a long-lived bird, and I can't imagine adopting a creature that you know will outlive you, possibly by decades, in the normal course of things, but that's beside the point).

7. My dog, Storm, is much more than just a animalin the house,
he is a part of me. He is getting older and I know someday we'll have to make that choice.

My thoughts are with you in your pain. I hope to have the strength you showed.

9. I totally understand--I lost my Maggie in July last year.
I have her ashes on a bookcase in my living room, and I'm always talking to her and telling her I love her. I have a new puppy and I love him very much, but I still miss my Maggie girl every day.

It's not silly for you to feel this way--pets are a very important part of our lives, and really, if people can't figure that out, they're not worth knowing and their opinions are worth even less (IMHO).

 to you.

10. I still miss my Beau
It's been almost 2 years and I still miss his company.

It does get easier with time, though.

11. Had cats most of my adult life.
.
Until NoName, always by accident (abandoned catsittee or winter collarless stray).
Actually went to the Humane Society where she picked me. 2001.
.
Lost her suddenly and completely unexpectedly to respiratory problems last fall.
.
Ironic part was that, because of my health, I worried that she would outlive me --
she was only about 9 years old.
.
No crisis here -- I MAY still be around 8-10 years from now... I just don't assume
so anymore.
.
Still grieving -- though the ache throbs rather than stabs now.
.
Am finally ready for another cat (there's SO many in need out there), but my current
lease won't allow that.
.
I hope it helps that you have plenty of company and empathy out here.
.

12. I'm so sorry, it's very painful
I lost my Tabitha cat 18 days ago, and every day it still hits me that I don't have to get out one more dish at feeding time, and I look and listen for her also, little things like that. Someone told me that grieving is one of the ways that we honor those who've left, and I absolutely believe that the departure of a pet from our lives is as painful as the loss of a human. Nothing silly in it at all, it is what it is. I feel for you. Take care.

13. Tikki (the dawg) is getting up there....
...So many of us here know your feelings...

...I watch after her very carefully, now....I think I know what to expect. I remember my
sweet girl Thelma Lou and how I still miss her so.

Like TL, Tikki is a life long dog and I know that means that after they are no longer
in your lap...they are still in your heart and head.

RIP Thelma Louise Priscilla...1980~1995
