Lounge movie buffs--name this film.

Took place in Australia--the setting could have been any time between 1970 and 1994 or so...I saw it on HBO in 1996.

Drama--teen agnst with a nice romance plotline. Boy and girl, multiracial couple. They hook up against the wishes of their authority figures and get in trouble. The end of the film features the pair getting split up. The boy goes back to his family in a rural area and the girl winds up dying in some kind of riot.

I just need a title.

when it went up to 1994 I knew it couldn't be.
