Grandma was a Blackfoot, so it would be a heritage thing too.

Tomatl - Tomato

Ahuacatl - Avocado

16. I'm getting the impression you're only reluctantly saying so
;)

No problem. I'm just not very interested in most Native American culture; Polynesian draw me in more. And having just finished "Three Cups of Tea" about Greg Mortenson's work, I'd rather learn Urdu, Pashta and Farsi :)

17. Sorry. It's just hat I've had a long day and I'm not coming across as enthused.
I do think it'd be very cool if you did learn Hawaiian!

Hope your evening is better :)

I wouldn't mind learning Maori as well, but that might be more due to my girlfriend being a citizen of New Zealand ;)

23. E ola mau ka 'olelo Hawai'i!
(may the Hawaiian language live forever)

True, the Hawaiian people are Polynesian, not Amerindian -- but as long as Hawai'i is the 50th State, with its own state quarter and ZIP codes and such, they are an indigenous American people, who should be recognized as such on a similar basis to the 550 or so existing tribal nations on the mainland.

30. We're probably part Pipil and I found a site that has a few words.
It would be fun to learn the language well enough to watch how it got folded into the regional Spanish dialect.
