So I had lap band surgery last week
Just saw the doc for a post-op. I've already lost 6 pounds, the sutures are healing nicely. And I get to start eating soft foods, finally!

I just had a scrambled egg and cheese. Yum.

I just wonder when I can quit taking lor-tab for the pain. I still feel as if I did 200+ crunches a few days ago. Ouch.

2. Heh
I was wondering if anyone would respond to this.

I just had my second meal of solid food. Staying down for now.

It drives me crazy when the cat jumps on my stomach, though. Ouch!

3. Congratulations! But there's a serious side effect they might not have warned you about:
You'll need to buy a whole new wardrobe!

Best wishes for a speedy post-op recovery, and best of luck to you as you start this new chapter in your life!

5. I still have some old wardrobe
hanging around in boxes in the garage. I just need to go out and sort them, so I can access them as I lose weight.

Luckily, Haele is a good seamstress, so she can do alterations as I go.

10. FIVE incisions
Edited on Thu Mar-04-10 01:46 AM by lazarus
four of them are only about 1.5 inches, the big one is about 4 inches.

And the insurance covered 85% of it, so, with the copay, we had to pay 750. Could have been worse.

I had to jump through hoops for almost a year to satisfy all their conditions, though. Tests, evaluations, six months of diet under supervision of a doctor, which didn't do crap, of course.

7. Good luck!
Hi,
I have worked with someone who had one of those put in. I think she has lost over 100 pounds. I walk with her on breaks and she said there are some foods she just can't eat. I wish you the best of luck and health with this.

Peace

11. I'm weaning myself off them
I have a love/hate relationship with lortab. I had a different surgery back in the fall, and had to take massive amounts for over a month. I quit cold turkey, and had about 40 hours of really brutal withdrawals. When I got down to my last half bottle this time, I decided to just ease off.

12. I am getting that done myself, eventually
I keep telling myself I am going to have the surgery and I keep forgetting to get a referral from my PA.

I started a list for the next time I see him, maybe then I could get the referral.

16. soup
I've been eating various kinds of soup (split pea, clam chowder that's been blended to be creamy smooth, etc.). Also a V8 for veggies when I think about it.

19. Blender meals! I remember them well
After I got all my wisdom teeth out at once, I discovered that blenders can render all meals edible. I had a thanksgiving dinner that came from a blender. Turkey, stuffing, potatos, the whole thing tasted something like bean-n-bacon soup (a good taste).

I wonder if there are any blender cook books.

Good luck, and speedy recovery.
:hi:

20. I forgot
also protein shakes. We found some tasty ones at Henry's. I have one for breakfast.

I've also been enjoying braunschweiger on melba toast. I was surprised to learn that, despite its crunchiness, melba toast is on the menu at this stage. Tasty!

15. cutting into the abdomen, major ouchie
I've had a number of abdominal surgeries (including RNY gastric bypass) and the abdominal wall seems to take forever to feel better.

I remember when I had hernia surgery, I though for sure I'd be back to work 3 days later, but getting around was really difficult, and yeah, it felt like I had done about twelve million crunches.

Good luck to you.

P.S. a scrambled egg w/ cheese is still one of my favorite breakfasts.

17. I had hernia surgery a few years ago
it took me months to get back to work (fairly physical job). That layoff kinda started the weight gain, as I moved into a less physical job and quit smoking right afterwards.
