Yesterday, for the first time in 8 1/2 years of marriage, my wife...
actually used a vacuum cleaner! And, she hardly needed any help in figuring out how to operate it! :loveya:

Somehow, I don't think it will become the norm, but maybe in a few years, she'll be ready to run the washer & dryer?

(and no, we don't live in squalor... either I've done the cleaning, or we had a cleaning lady)

2. Awwww, that's fun.
I love it when my wife attempts to clean something. I usually have to end up going over it again, with the vacuum or doing the dishes, or dear God don't let her near the washer & dryer....but it's sweet when she puts in some effort and tries to help out. :)

4. True
when she does wash a few dishes, I normally wait until after she goes to bed or something and rewash them.

11. well, my wife is Chinese
and, it is more typical in the more developed eastern part of China for men to do most of the housework... and, from anecdotal evidence of my wife & her friends, somehow I've found that when Chinese women come to the US, they seem to find husbands (Chinese or non Chinese) that do a good bit of housework, too.

However, my ex-wife did almost no housework during our brief marriage, so I see my wife doing any housework as a big win for me.

12. well, when it comes to negotiating things
with a contractor or somebody else, I just shut up & let my wife do the talking. She does that stuff for a living and anything I say will just get in the way.

10. I must admit that I do most of the vacuuming around here, but to CMW's credit,
he test drives every new vacuum cleaner, art supply, kitchen aid or power tool I buy -- to ensure my safety.

14. well, she does help fold clothes sometimes
but, I normally have to refold things because they don't fit into the drawers the way she folds them.

15. i love this thread. hubby doesnt get to fold clothes, fill dishwasher or pack
why? cause i just do it better, lol

but he excels at going after those piles. you know, stuff accumulated in piles. once a piles starts, it will stay there forever, and just keep on growing. i wont hardly touch a pile. pile of mail. pile of papers. piles..... not my thing. i can pick up, and i do, unless it has made it into a pile of save and look at later

he whips those out.

16. oh, don't get me started on the dishwasher...
or separating dark & light colors in the laundry We have 3 baskets - one for light, one for dark and one for towels - our 7 year old daughter has known how to do that for years now, but my wife still can't figure it (or placing items in the dishwasher) out.

my wife is hot and she has two master's degrees. I think her attractiveness has helped her out in terms of housework.

20. Or maybe they know they will be re-done anyway so why do it. I had an
SO who re-did everything I did because it wasn't up to his standard, so I just stopped doing anything at all, why bother. People don't like being made to think they can't do anything right. It's really on par with the "dumb blond" attitude.

21. That reminds me of my husband during our first year of marriage.
He's incredibly picky about food and he never knows what he wants for dinner. When I was first married, I tried to be nice and I wanted to cook meals that he'd love. After about six months of "I don't like this" from my husband, I instituted the "Cook your own dinner" rule. It's worked great since then. We've been married for 30 years.

22. No, not really
Most of the time, if I re-do something, it will be when she's not around.
