Excellent Myers-Briggs test cut down to 32 questions
Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 11:12 PM by Bucky
I always get a different score whenever I take one of these, but that's because my personality changes so much over time (usually job related stuff forces an approach to life on me that I can't necessarily turn off when I clock out). So I like getting Myers-Briggs test results--even though they're essentially a thinking person's horoscope--but I just don't like how godawful long the more accurate ones tend to run.

When I complained about this in a passing conversation with a friend yesterday, she sent me a link to a "very accurate and surprisingly short" online test. Apparently this week I'm XNTP, but only because I radically fluctuate between introversion and extroversion, depending on whether I want to earn your love through laughter or I want you to leave me the hell alone.

Anyway, highly recommended ==> www.discordia-inc.co.uk/misc/mbtitest.html

==========

(on edit) Oops, forgot to add that you get to make more than one selection on the multiple choice part, which is probably the key to its accuracy.

I always test out INTP, this time it flagged me as ISFP...don't know what to make of that. I may have rushed through it...i'm not much of a sensing, feeling person LOL!

INFP...
Sometimes I think of it as a personality disorder rather than a trait.
Took the test years ago....One can never change.
But...I'm OK, You're OK:hug: :loveya:
Life as a 1%er....

Is that you, too ... a Questor ...?

I used to get an extrovert sometimes depending on my mood but I am more introverted the older I get.

There are types that should never ever even try to be friends. This I know.

24. Same here! INFP.
It's a bit odd, I took this test before about twenty years ago and was an INFJ. Wondering what might have happened to become a "P" in the intervening years?

Wouldn't it be fascinating if more DUers took this test, just to see what the result would be?

Anybody up to placing bets? More introverts or more extraverts?

18. The thing is, I can produce a result and that takes the magic away.
But anyway, it is a nice short version and this time the result was ENTP, sort of like saying, you're a loud orange.

lol

(To be fair, this is probably the right one so in some ways, this test works better than that gawd awful long one. :) )

5. Is getting an 11 in two different categories good or bad?
This one still says I'm an INTJ, but this one says I'm 11 on Introversion (in reality it's probably a lot higher than that) and 11 on Intuition. Thinking I got a 7 and Judging gets me a 5.

6. Occasionally my I will become an E
but the rest is always the same, and I have taken this test at different times for the last 12 or so years.

INFP - as it usually is.

I was surprised that it came out the same with so few questions.

25. Isn't it amazing
that we INFJs / INFPs who are the 1%ers in society generally, are solidly represented in these few responses?

I would love to poll our fellow DUers.

11. "I always get a different score whenever I take one of these... because my personality changes"
Edited on Sat Feb-27-10 01:03 AM by Orrex
Nonsense.

The reason you get a different score every time is because the test is a piece of shit with no empirical value whatsoever, and it's disconcerting that you're willing to blame yourself for the inconsistency rather than the bullshit test.

In fact, explicitly built into the formal structure of the Myers-Briggs Test Instrument is a handy trick for negating whatever validity the test might otherwise be purported to have. It's garbage. It's worthless. By its very nature it's useless, and yet it's accepted by people as if it really tested something verifiable.

Before anyone jumps on me for being a downer, let me disclaim that I don't care if people like to take this test to find out that they're an introvert or what-have-you. However, this same privately-owned instrument is used by employers as a means of screening new applicants and for assessing advancement potential in existing employees. In terms of predictive value, the test is about as reliable as phrenology.

It's offensive that his pseudoscientific word-game is used in any formal setting whatsoever, but the fact that it has a direct impact on people's careers is disgusting.

16. While you're good at expressing scorn, you apparently missed my disclaimer
As I said, it's basically a horoscope. My comment that my personality changes over time is based on the fact that I noticed I answer the generally similar questions about my preferences and self perceptions differently now than how I used to.

Seriously, don't this stuff so seriously.

As I said, I don't care if people like to take these tests for shits and giggles.

But it is inexcusable that the same horoscope-like test instrument is used as a means of assessing career potential.

That's I take this stuff so seriously.

14. INXP ...
Edited on Sat Feb-27-10 01:15 AM by RoyGBiv
Every time I take one of these tests, the IN is strongly weighted to that side, and the T/F and P/J goes back and forth to create various combinations, all of which would seem to make me a different person. My most recent full scale test had me as an INFJ.

This one has me exactly tied with the T/F category and only one point favoring the P. If I'd had a different kind of week, this would have been different.

I think these tests, if they describe anything, tend to capture the world around you at a given moment in time but say rather little about your overall personality type.

37. I have to question the accuracy...
I've been tested on Myers-Briggs repeatedly by psychologists and while my results are mutable (I'm rather XNTX with a very-strong NT depending on how tired of people I am at that moment), they're usually not mutable in the way that assessment thinks I am, EXFP with a strong bias towards that F and also the P.

41. I generally agree w/ your "horoscopes" comment, but I had one amusing experience at an MB seminar
At the beginning of the day they broke us into groups based on our strongest inclination, and then had each group do a specific activity, then compare that activity to people whose strongest inclination was the opposite. So people whose most prominent trait was E over I were grouped together and did the same activity as the people whose most prominent trait was I over E, regardless of what their other scores were.

I don't remember my type at the time (probably INTP), but I know I scored highest on the N scale, and for our task our group was given a green apple and asked to describe it. The N stands for intuition, but it's also very much about abstract and associational thinking, so when we started riffing on the apple we were all over the place. Somebody mentioned the Beatles and Apple Records, and from there it was just a beautiful flurry of random and free association brainstorming. But there was one lady in our group who must have been misdiagnosed, because her discomfort with the situation was palpable. At one point she held up the apple and said something like "we're supposed to describe *this,* not talk about The Beatles!" She didn't break into tears or anything, but she did seem visibly shaken. And I can imagine it must have been disorienting for her being around people who had such a different way of thinking.
