Recovering from my hysterectomy...
the whole surgery lasted 2 hours. Based on how I'm feeling, this is how it went:

1. the first ten minutes - removal of the uterus and cervix;
2. the remaining hour and 50 minutes - the nurses, anesthesiologist, ob/gyn, her assistant and everyone else in the hospital took turns to beat the shit out of me with baseball bats.

There's no doubt in my mind that's what happened. Anyway, it's a crappy feeling being dependent on my SO for everything. I was expecting to go back to work on March 8. Yeah, right.

2. March 8?
That's way too soon...

Even if you had a vaginal surgery, there's no way you should be going back to work that soon.

I had an abdominal hysterectomy, and I was off 8 weeks.

You feel lousy because they stuffed your guts out of the way so they could get to your organs...it takes time to get over that...

Take it easy, let your SO do stuff for you, and enjoy the time to relax, if you can...

I hope you feel better soon...

3. I had an ovary removed and a D&C last year.
Trust me, the first 4 days or so are the worst of it, and then you will steadily recover after that. Within a week, I was feeling well enough that I overdid it a few times because I would forget how sick I actually was.

Drugs and rest are your friend right now!

Oh, and don't push your digestive system too fast during the beginning - that was the worst mistake I made! The anesthesia and abdominal surgery is very hard on it, and it needs time to heal and get back to normal too, maybe even more so than the places that were actually injured.

4. Ah, I hope you feel better soon
I used to be an OBGYN nurse, so I've seen the recovery, but I've never been there. Be kind to yourself; allow others to do for you; take the pain meds; move when you can, cause otherwise the gas pains will be so painful they will seem to want to rip your insides out (I've heard). The first few days are absolutely the worst, and then the healing starts and the days will get better, but if you need more time, please see if you can get it so that you don't push your recovery. My best wishes for an uneventful and safe recovery, and I hope it's all better soon.

5. I remember my mother describing a similar feeling after hers.
Just do yourself a HUGE favor: if the doc says no lifting for X number of days, LISTEN. My mom didn't, and that caused a problem. She ended up being okay, but loading the washing machine was not a good thing for her to have done.

6. Oh Honey, 6-8 weeks...take your time. Keep a journel each day and
in a few weeks you will see how much better you are. But for starters, you'll take 1 step foreward and then 2 steps back. There was a wonderful website that I used when I went through the same thing. It's called hystersisters. Great information and company and sympathy and humor. Godspeed!
