But what's the big fuckin' deal? I always like Tarantino movies as much as the next guy, but why was this one so critically acclaimed? It just seemed liked an -OK- movie to me.

Sure it was fun watching Hitler get shot to death, but I really didn't "get" why people are raving about the movie. (Plus, the movie-Hitler looked 20 years older than the actual-Hitler. Couldn't they find a better Hitler? It's not like he had any lines or anything. I could find a more convincing Hitler walking around the block.)

I give it a sideways-thumb. It was OK.

2. (spoiler again)
Aside from a few scalpings and shootings, it really wasn't even very violent. I didn't dislike the movie, but I just don't understand the accolades. It was OK. Not great - don't want to see it again - It was an OK movie.

and she really loved the explosions.

She wants to get it again.

I loved Pitt's "Italian" accent....

3. I thought the same thing
and the bar scene was a bit too long, but for all the acclaim/praise it got, I was let down. Kill Bill 1 and 2 were substantial better.

4. Yeah. I guess I expected....more.
The subtitles were very well done, especially when the characters were speaking a combination of German & French, but the plot was just...pffffft.

5. I'm just about ready to sit down and see it...
loved Kill Bill 1&2 and most of Tarantino's other flicks. Maybe one just has to be a Tarantino fan.

When I read the back of the dvd box...I got the feeling that perhaps the plot had been suggested by The Dirty Dozen.

6. Hey, whatever floats your boat, my dear Blue-Jay...
I LOVED it!

The plot, the action, the characters (esp. the guy up for Oscar in the best supporting actor role!)...

I was on the edge of my seat most of the time!

And the black humor...wow.

Too damn good...

9. tarantino would be a lot better if he got out of his own way
and stopped trying to weave his narrative through a desperate need to appear preternaturally hip.

13. It was overhyped beyond belief. I don't see what's so great about it.
Certain characters who are portrayed as brilliant throughout the whole film become total idiots at the end of the movie.

I read Tarantino did not know how to end it when he originally wrote the movie 10 years ago or so. That doesn't surprise me. The ending was weak sauce.

Hitler gets blown up and then Brad Pitt has a classic line. What's not to love?

20. I guess it's the "best part" if you didn't care that Tarantino ditched the plot and characters.
It seems like some people will accept anything from Tarantino, as long as there's a gore-fest and Brad Pitt at the end.

If I want to see people get killed in a violent, climactic ending, I'll go watch Reservoir Dogs again, because it actually has a decent plot and consistent characters.

Sure Brad Pitt got the billing but the actor as the Nazi stole eery scene he was in. Unfortunately I can't remember the actor's name.

19. Most fun I've had in a theater in years
Around 4 scenes where the audience burst into cheers and many more with laughter. Who can't love the Hugo Stiglitz montage or any scene Brad Pitt was in?

21. Just watched it...
my impression was that it was one of the better Tarantino movies. Particularly enjoyed the French, German and English languages being used. Maybe being alive during the actual war made a difference in my enjoyment of the movie.

As a possible alternative to the ending of the war, it was quite credible. There was considerable humor throughout the movie, although not so much as the hype would have you believe.

A good movie and worth watching.

23. I just saw it this weekend and LOVED it! It had many more
layers than I ever expected. IMHO, it was one of Quentin's best, and I love every movie of his I've seen. Brad Pitt was awesome but I agree, the guy who played the "Jew Hunter" was unbelievable. I was on the edge of my chair the whole time. In fact, I watched it again tonight. Man, there were some great lines.....

24. I found it to be an interesting and thoughtful examination of...
The nature and relationship between film and propaganda -- which, of course, first really started playing out during WWII. Variations of this theme are spun out over and over again throughout the film -- from Landa's exclamation "I love rumors! Facts can be so misleading, where rumors, true or false, are often revealing" in the opening scene to the hero worship of the German sniper and the subsequent propaganda film made about him (which was based on actual Nazi propaganda films of the time) to the fact that the Basterds are essentially throwing their own propaganda back at the Germans (sending one witness back to tell their tale) to the stylistic recall of pro-American exploitation war movies (their/our own form of propaganda) and Cold War era music videos (again, propaganda), etc., etc., etc. (It was no accident that Shoshanna takes her revenge on the Germans by destroying a cinema with literally explosive film itself -- while her own film is playing.) I could go on, but I'm at work; not a whole lot of time to expound...

In short, though, I found it suspenseful, humorous, incredibly well-acted, and, unlike Tarantino's other works, I thought it actually had more substance than style to it. It was my favorite film of the year; I liked it better than Up, Up in the Air, Serious Man, Avatar, etc. (Still haven't seen The Hurt Locker yet, though...)

25. I personally loved it
I loved the characters, the acting, the humor, and the intensity of the climax. It was very entertaining. There were a few spots that moved a little too slow IMO, but that's the only issue I had with it.

It's funny listening to my self-defense trainers talk about this movie though because for a few weeks after, they couldn't stop bitching about the strangle scene...getting out of a that position is one of the first things they teach.
