I will always try to avoid cursing @ someone in public, especially the opposite sex and/or in a crowded area, even when it is in reply to being cursed at, as I believe that it just lowers you to their already low level of intelligence. I can usually insult people quite effectively w/o needing to curse loudly @ them, unless it is necessary due to a serious and escalating incident, and I become aware that I won't be able to avoid having a physical confrontation.
